Responsibilities
- Enforce customs, immigration, and agriculture laws and regulations.
- Facilitate the flow of legitimate trade and travel.
- Conduct inspections of individuals and conveyances.
- Determine the admissibility of individuals for entry into the United States.
- Prevent the illegal entry of individuals and prohibited goods and the smuggling of illegal drugs and other contraband.
Requirements
Typical assignments include:
- Enforcing customs, immigration, and agriculture laws and regulations.
- Facilitating the flow of legitimate trade and travel.
- Conducting inspections of individuals and conveyances.
- Determining the admissibility of individuals for entry into the United States.
- Preventing the illegal entry of individuals and prohibited goods and the smuggling of illegal drugs and other contraband.
Qualifications
- GS-5: Three (3) years full-time general work experience or a bachelor's degree with education substitution.
- GS-7: One (1) year of specialized full-time work experience or a bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement or one (1) full year of graduate-level education.
- GS-9: Previous or current law enforcement or military law enforcement experience.

- Utilize observational techniques, evaluate facts, and review documentation.
- Apply Federal, State, or local laws and regulations.
- Make determinations in compliance with laws and regulations.
- Perform physical inspections of people, documents, or goods.
- Make arrests, seize property, impose fines, and/or penalties based on findings.

Pay
Annual base salary varies by location and grade level. Overtime pay is also available. The GS-5 grade level starts at $41,863 per year, while the GS-7 grade level starts at $112,415 per year. The GS-9 grade level starts at $157,045 per year.

Work schedules vary based on duty location and mission requirements.
