About the role

Serves as a working leader of 3 or more employees in accomplishing trades and labor work. Passes instructions received from supervisor and starts work by assigning immediate tasks to individual members of the group. Works alongside other workers, setting the pace and performing non-supervisory work.

Responsibilities

  • Cleans rooms, corridors, stairways, and other areas using light and heavy-duty powered equipment (e.g., sweeps, mops, vacuums, scrubs, strips, polishes).
  • Checks work in progress and upon completion for compliance with supervisor’s instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines.
  • Performs routine maintenance of equipment.
  • Cleans, disinfects, and deodorizes toilet facilities.
  • Dusts assigned areas, makes beds, and changes linens.
  • Washes walls, windows, blinds, and ceiling fixtures using ladders, scaffolds, and safety belts.
  • Plans work by reviewing daily room occupancy schedules and determining sequences, steps, procedures, and techniques to accomplish tasks.
  • Leads other employees in completing assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Direct Deposit and Social Security Card are required.
  • Must meet qualification, eligibility, and background requirements for the position.
  • A one-year probationary period may be required.
  • Must satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
  • Subject to pre-employment checks in accordance with AR 215-3, para. 2.
  • May be required to complete a Tier 1 background investigation for a Common Access Card (CAC) for physical access to federally-controlled facilities.
  • Must be physically fit and capable of lifting and pulling items weighing up to 40 pounds, and occasionally over 50 pounds.
  • Must possess good customer service skills to interact with people.
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.

Qualifications

Resumes must clearly demonstrate relevant experience, skills, knowledge, and abilities for this position. A qualified candidate must meet the following minimum criteria:

  • Must meet the physical requirements of the position.
  • Prior work experience providing the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties listed, including using and maintaining tools and equipment of the trade.
  • Ability to lead other employees.

Highly Preferred Qualifications: Candidates with the following will be considered "Highly Qualified" or "Best Qualified":

  • One year of responsible work experience in the hospitality industry demonstrating the ability to perform the duties with minimal supervision.

Area of Consideration

This job is open to candidates who live in the local area of the Big Island (Hawaii).

Pay

This job falls under the Federal Wage Schedule (FWS) pay system. FWS employees earn overtime pay for working more than 8 hours in a day or more than 40 hours in a week, whichever provides the greater benefit. Regular full-time, part-time, and regularly scheduled flexible employees may receive Sunday premium pay for working on Sundays. Employees may also be eligible for extra pay if the majority of their scheduled hours falls after 3:00 PM.
