About the role
This position is part of the Food & Nutrition team at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo. The Culinary & Hospitality Associate Level 1 performs all assigned duties under general supervision within the daily scope of the Food Service department, contributes to a safe and positive environment, works independently, and follows basic instructions with attention to detail. Employees may be asked to perform duties outside their specific role and fulfill any responsibilities associated with the Food and Nutrition Department’s daily operations.
Responsibilities
- Assembly and service of foods and supplies to customers, patients, and supply facilities
- Delivery of meals and supplies to patients
- Light and heavy cleaning as assigned, such as dishwashing, trash, and facility cleaning
- Operation of cash register and patient meal ordering system(s)
- Stocking and filling, product labeling and dating, and product rotation
- Preparation, apportionment, distribution, and storage of hot and cold food items according to recipes, production sheets, portion control standards, and established procedures
- Measuring, washing, cleaning, mixing, and combining ingredients for food production items (e.g., peeling, dicing, shredding, and slicing fruit, vegetables, and other items)
- Operation of automatic appliances and manual kitchen utensils
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

- Regular lifting of bulky or moderately heavy weights (up to 50 pounds), and occasional assistance with heavier tasks or equivalent effort in pushing, pulling, or handling material, equipment, and other objects
- Use of correct body positioning, proper body mechanics to avoid injury, safe work practices, and personal protective equipment when necessary
- Maintaining a safe workplace by keeping the work area free of hazards, ensuring equipment and work areas are properly cleaned and maintained, and correcting or reporting safety hazards
Requirements
- Basic knowledge of food safety and sanitation
- Ability to communicate clearly and understand basic verbal and written directions
- Ability to follow basic food assembly and packaging instructions
- Ability to read and understand the English language
- Basic math skills

Pay
External candidates only: Sign-on bonus up to $375.00 and retention bonus $375.00.
