Court Security Deputy Sheriff (Certified)
About the role
This class is assigned to provide security to county, circuit, and juvenile courts for the 1st Judicial Circuit in Escambia County. May provide field training to new employees and may provide lead direction to civilian employees.
Responsibilities
- Maintains security in and around the courts; ensures the safety and security of court personnel and the public;
- escorts jurors during court breaks.
- conducts and documents security inspections prior to court sessions.
- answers calls and complaints within the judicial center; may conduct investigations regarding these complaints.
- assists individuals and the general public entering the judicial center.
- patsrols inside the building and the perimeters of the judicial centers to preserve public order and tranquility and to prevent and/or discover the commission of crimes against person or property.
- makes arrests and testifies in the prosecution of law violators on the judicial center premises; prepares detailed and accurate reports to be used in follow-up investigations and court actions.
- protects crime scenes, gathers, and preserves evidence within the judicial centers; directs and coordinates activities on-site until relieved by a supervisor.
- serves warrants, capias, court orders, and other legal processes; arrests persons wanted on warrants or court orders.
- thoroughly searches confinement areas in a systematic manner, locating and seizing any contraband, and preserving any evidence found in accordance with agency policy; searches prisoners as required or directed; transfers prisoners from holding areas into courtrooms; guards prisoners during court appearances, maintaining security and control of the prisoner, ensuring that no prisoners or other persons are injured and no escapes or disturbances occur.
- sequesters juries overnight when necessary.
- assists in moving inmates and detainees.
- collects fingerprints and DNA samples of individuals convicted of crimes.
- may perform work outside of the confines of the judicial centers in emergency situations as deemed necessary by the Sheriff or his designee.
- performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
Requirements
- High School Diploma (G.E.D.).
- completion of a basic training program for Law Enforcement approved by the CJSTC in the state of Florida.
- passed the Florida state officer certification examination.
- Physical Agility Test (P.A.T.) at the beginning of the pre-employment process.
Qualifications
- CJSTC certification.
- FDLE certification.
- Valid driver's license.

- CPR.
- Firearms operations.

- Utilizing firearms.
- Preparing and maintaining activity reports, logs, and related documentation.
- Communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc.
