Essential Job Functions
- Maintain safety and order in Circuit and District Courtrooms during all proceedings (criminal, civil, protection orders, jury trials, video hearings, sentencings, and special settings).
- Monitor inmate and public behavior; intervene in disturbances or altercations using approved use-of-force protocols when necessary.
- Escort inmates securely to and from holding areas and ensure accountability and custody at all times.
- Supervise inmates in custody and ensure compliance with facility and court rules.
- Conduct security checks, and inmate monitoring during court transport and hearings.
- Conduct perimeter checks and courtroom inspections to ensure all areas are secure, sanitary, and clear of contraband.
- Operate and monitor all security equipment including X-ray scanners, magnetometers, duress alarms, and courthouse security cameras.
- Respond to panic alarms, emergencies, disturbances, and courthouse alerts.
- Conduct searches of persons, belongings, holding cells, and the facility for weapons or contraband.
- Maintain accurate documentation of incidents, arrests, or unusual occurrences.
- Greet and assist all courthouse visitors in a professional and courteous manner.
- Staff assigned to the main security desk provide information, directions, and guidance to staff, attorneys, court officials, and members of the public.
- Uphold department values and represent the Sheriff's Office in a positive and professional light.
- Absorb and complete warrant arrests within the court complex and complete required transport and arrest paperwork.
- Retrieve and distribute court paperwork including booking sheets, affidavits, warrants, and extradition documents.
- Courtroom clerks provide information, directions, and guidance to staff, attorneys, court officials, and members of the public.
- Coordinate with Central Booking, Court Clerks, Judges, and Legal Staff to ensure accurate scheduling, inmate movement, and court preparation.
- Attend daily briefings and maintain situational awareness of court calendars and special assignments.
- Ensure affidavits are collected from in-custody individuals for court-appointed attorneys and report any refusals to appropriate personnel.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of Wyoming State statutes, criminal codes, and correctional procedures.
- Knowledge of court operations, legal documentation, and inmate transport protocols.
- Knowledge of use-of-force policies, emergency procedures, courtroom security methods.
- Knowledge of screening equipment and courtroom technology platforms.
- Ability to de-escalate conflict, write reports and maintain situational awareness.
- Ability to interact with all individuals with professionalism, discretion, and integrity.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and remain composed in high-pressure situations.
- Ability to maintain professional demeanor, sound judgment, situational awareness, and the ability to act decisively in both routine and emergent circumstances.
- Ability to handle stressful hostile environments, including verbal confrontation or physical altercations with the public.
- Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor conditions across multiple levels of the courthouse.
- Ability to have effective interpersonal communication skills and team collaboration under dynamic conditions.
- Ability to conduct searches, respond to emergencies, and physically restrain individuals if necessary.
