About the role

This is a professional clinical position providing counseling to children and families in the Treatment Works 2.0 (TW 2.0) program under the Outpatient Services Division. The TW 2.0 program provides children’s therapy, case management, and High-Fidelity Wrap (HFW) services designed for children in the Pinellas County School system at risk of suicide. TW 2.0 serves the entire family and assists in managing behavioral health needs associated with suicide, trauma, substance use, and severe and persistent mental illness.

The Counselor-TW 2.0 provides clinical interventions directed at behavioral health and substance use concerns, including safety issues and severe and persistent mental illness, that bring the child and family to the attention of the Pinellas County School system due to risk of suicide. The Counselor functions as a member of an Integrated Decision Team (IDT) consisting of the Counselor, a Behavioral Health Case Manager, and an IDT facilitator.

The Counselor ensures the client has an individualized treatment plan that is strength-based and built collaboratively with each member of the IDT team during the IDT session. The treatment plan, risk level, and clinical interventions are developed by the Integrated Decision Team that consists of the family, natural supports, and formal supports that care about and know the client best. Each IDT member, including the client, contributes valuable knowledge, expertise, and perspective that informs the treatment plan and clinical response.

The Counselor reports and discusses at IDT meetings the client’s progress or lack of progress, barriers, interventions, safety issues, or any other information important in resolving behavioral health, substance use, safety, or severe and persistent mental illness concerns. Services are delivered using standards of trauma-informed care principles, ensuring plans and clinical interventions address how trauma impacts family functioning and use trauma resolution skills. Services are tailored to the unique culture of the client and occur in the community at a place convenient and comfortable for the parent. This is a field-based position.

The Counselor is responsible for meeting an annual client-facing care requirement of 1,316 hours. Achieving the minimum required weekly, monthly, and annual client-facing care hours is an essential function of this position.

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical interventions for behavioral health and substance use concerns, including safety issues and severe and persistent mental illness.
• Function as a member of an Integrated Decision Team (IDT) with a Behavioral Health Case Manager and an IDT facilitator.
• Develop and ensure an individualized, strength-based treatment plan collaboratively with the IDT team during IDT sessions.
• Report and discuss client progress, barriers, interventions, safety issues, and other relevant information at IDT meetings.
• Deliver services using trauma-informed care principles, addressing how trauma impacts family functioning.
• Tailor services to the unique culture of the client and provide them in the community at a convenient and comfortable location for the parent.
• Meet an annual requirement of 1,316 client-facing care hours.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or related field required.
• License in the healing arts preferred.
• Minimum of two years of documented clinical experience working with at-risk children and families.
• CAP certification preferred.
• Complete the Wraparound for Clinicians Training (3 hours) within 30 days of employment. Preference given to those who have already taken this training.
• Sufficient clinical knowledge to provide intervention with adults and children manifesting a range of psychopathology, utilizing various treatment approaches (individual, family, play, and group therapy).
• Clinical knowledge of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-Focused CBT, and other evidence-based treatments.
• Knowledge of community resources.
• Experience with families, children, and school-aged children with histories of suicidal thoughts or actions.
• Knowledge of the Florida Baker Act Law.

Pay

$80,000 annually.
