Cost Accounting Manager | Remote | Up to $110,000

About the role

This is a highly visible role supporting a complex manufacturing and distribution environment where you'll have the opportunity to influence operations, improve profitability, and drive process improvements across the business. This position is 100% remote with limited travel (approximately 10%) to the company's manufacturing operation in Minnesota.

Responsibilities

• Lead inventory costing and valuation across raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods.
• Manage monthly inventory and cost accounting close activities, including COGS accounting, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
• Prepare cost analyses, variance reporting, and profitability reporting to support business decisions.
• Support pricing strategies and identify opportunities to improve margins.
• Partner with Operations and Supply Chain to improve inventory management and manufacturing performance.
• Drive process improvements, reporting automation, and ERP optimization initiatives.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, KPI development, and future system enhancements.
• Mentor team members while helping establish departmental goals and expectations.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 5+ years of hands-on cost accounting experience within a manufacturing and/or distribution environment.
• Strong experience with:
  • Inventory accounting and inventory valuation
  • Cost accounting methodologies
  • Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) accounting
  • General ledger accounting
  • Journal entries
  • Month-end close
  • Account reconciliations
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, XLOOKUP, and financial analysis.
• Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and cost accounting principles.
• Experience working within ERP systems supporting manufacturing operations.
• An automation mindset with a passion for improving manual processes and increasing efficiency.
• Ability to communicate effectively with both financial and operational business partners.
• Comfortable mentoring team members and collaborating across multiple functional areas.
