About the role
This is a highly visible role supporting a complex manufacturing and distribution environment where you'll have the opportunity to influence operations, improve profitability, and drive process improvements across the business. This position is 100% remote with limited travel (approximately 10%) to the company's manufacturing operation in Minnesota.
Responsibilities
- Lead inventory costing and valuation across raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods.
- Manage monthly inventory and cost accounting close activities, including COGS accounting, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
- Prepare cost analyses, variance reporting, and profitability reporting to support business decisions.
- Support pricing strategies and identify opportunities to improve margins.
- Partner with Operations and Supply Chain to improve inventory management and manufacturing performance.
- Drive process improvements, reporting automation, and ERP optimization initiatives.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, KPI development, and future system enhancements.
- Mentor team members while helping establish departmental goals and expectations.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 5+ years of hands-on cost accounting experience within a manufacturing and/or distribution environment.
- Strong experience with:
- Inventory accounting and inventory valuation
- Cost accounting methodologies
- Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) accounting
- General ledger accounting
- Journal entries
- Month-end close
- Account reconciliations
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, XLOOKUP, and financial analysis.
- Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and cost accounting principles.
- Experience working within ERP systems supporting manufacturing operations.
- An automation mindset with a passion for improving manual processes and increasing efficiency.
- Ability to communicate effectively with both financial and operational business partners.
- Comfortable mentoring team members and collaborating across multiple functional areas.

- CPA, CMA, or Certified Cost Accountant (CCA)
