Effective July 1, 2026 the wage for this position increased by 2.5%. The wage listed in this job posting reflects the increase. The Department of Corrections, Division of Institutions is recruiting for a Correctional Supervisor with the Central Transportation Unit (CTU) in Anchorage, Alaska.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Schedule and coordinate prisoner movements within and outside Alaska to support population management, required services, and inter-agency transport needs.
  • Ensure efficient utilization of transportation staff, vehicles, and other resources while coordinating closely with partner law enforcement agencies.
  • Oversee department-wide selection, training, qualification, and requalification of Prisoner Transportation Officers.
  • Work with facility leadership to arrange airlifts and other transport modes for routine, emergency, high-profile, or special-handling transports in compliance with policy and safety standards.
  • Manage vehicle readiness, authorize maintenance and repairs, and procure necessary security equipment, weapons, ammunition, and related unit supplies.

Who We Are Looking For:

  • We are interested in candidates who possess some or all of the following position specific competencies:
  • Supervision: Plans, distributes, and monitors work assignments; sets task priorities; evaluates work performance and provides feedback to others on their performance; ensures that staff are appropriately selected, utilized, and developed, and that they are treated in a fair and equitable manner. Assignments include the authority and responsibility to recommend or independently take action to employ (i.e., appoint, transfer, promote), discipline or discharge, or adjudicate grievances of direct reports.
  • Security: Knowledge of the laws, regulations, and guidelines related to securing personnel, facilities, and information, including the requirements for handling, transporting, and protecting classified information and proper reporting of security incidents.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of the Alaska Correctional Officer Academy or the equivalent program accredited by the Alaska Police Standards Council AND One year experience performing lead work over employees engaged in security duties which support the custody, security, and reformation of prisoners in an adult correctional institution. The required experience is met by service as a Correctional Officer 4 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.
  • OR Two years' experience performing, supervising, managing, or administering probation/parole functions and services for an adult offender population in an institutional or community setting equivalent to an Adult Probation Officer 3 in a lead capacity with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.
  • OR Two years' experience training, guiding, or evaluating lower level Correctional Officers as a designated Field Training Officer. The required experience is met by some Correctional Officers 3 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.

Special Note:

  • At the time of employment: be 21 years of age and a United States citizen or a United States National; have a high school or home school diploma recognized or certified by a state or a local school district within a state as having met that state's graduation requirement; or have a General Educational Development certificate.
  • Appointment to Correctional Officer Supervisor is conditional, pending successful completion of a thorough background investigation, psychological evaluation, drug screening, and medical examination.
  • Possess a valid driver's license issued within the United States at time of appointment.
  • On-call availability may be required.

If utilizing this education, you must show that the education credentials have been submitted to a private organization that specializes in the interpretation of foreign educational credentials and that such education has been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education programs; or an accredited U.S. post-secondary institution reports the other institution as one whose transcript is given full value, or full value is given in subject areas applicable to the curricula at the post-secondary institution. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.

PREA standards preclude the department from hiring or promoting anyone who has engaged in, or been convicted of any conduct which would violate PREA standards related to sexual assault including:
  • - Sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup, community confinement facility, juvenile facility, or other institution.
  • - Convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse;
  • - Has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described above.
