CORRECTIONAL SUPERVISING COOK (CORRECTIONAL FACILITY)

Under the direct supervision of the Supervising Correctional Cook, this role supervises incarcerated workers in the preparation of the planned menu and the distribution of food at Mule Creek State Prison in Ione, Amador County.

About the role

This is a limited-term position for 12 months, with the possibility of extension up to 24 months or conversion to a permanent role. Individuals eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered. The position is full-time and located 100% on-site at Mule Creek State Prison.

Responsibilities

• Supervise incarcerated workers in food preparation and distribution according to the planned menu.
• Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships within the department, other governmental agencies, health care partners, and communities.

Requirements

• Meet the Minimum Requirements as outlined in the Class Specification for Correctional Supervising Cook (Correctional Facility).
• If using education to meet Minimum Requirements, include unofficial transcripts/diploma for verification. Official transcripts may be required upon appointment.
• Foreign education must be verified for U.S. equivalency through a NACES-accredited evaluation service.
• New hires must pass a background investigation, including Live Scan fingerprinting, and a Tuberculosis test/evaluation prior to appointment, with annual testing thereafter.
• Candidates must be eligible for hire under one of the following: current classification, lateral transfer, reinstatement, list or LEAP eligibility, or SROA/Surplus eligibility (priority given to SROA/Surplus candidates).

Pay

Monthly salary range: $4,586.00 - $5,639.00. Effective July 1, 2025, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) applies, requiring a 3% pay reduction in exchange for 5 hours of PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 30, 2027. New hires will start at the minimum salary of the classification or alternate range, if applicable.
