About the role

Join Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Managed Care as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) and be part of a team delivering high-quality, compassionate medical, mental health, and dental services to patients in 22 Texas Department of Criminal Justice facilities across West Texas. This role is essential to our healthcare team, providing direct patient care, assisting with treatment plans, and ensuring patient well-being in a supportive, collaborative, and purpose-driven environment.

Responsibilities

• Administer medications, perform health assessments, and monitor patients’ health conditions to ensure adherence to care plans.
• Identify and report changes in patient conditions, contributing to problem identification and the development of patient care goals.
• Prepare and operate essential medical equipment for procedures, examinations, and treatments.
• Accurately record patient assessments, interventions, and medication administration in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
• Collaborate with healthcare providers and correctional staff to ensure coordinated care in a secure environment.
• Ensure compliance with all healthcare policies, safety standards, and regulations, including proper medication storage and direct observation protocols.
• Assist in medical emergencies, triage patients, and provide immediate care when necessary.

Requirements

• Current Vocational Nurse License in the State of Texas, or ability to transfer license to Texas, or scheduled to complete a program of vocational nursing within 120 days of applying.
• Current CPR certification.
• Graduated from an approved accredited nursing program.
• New graduates must pass the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN) on the first attempt.

Preferred Qualifications

• 1-2 years of nursing experience.
• Previous experience working in correctional nursing (jails, prisons, juvenile detention).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Pay

• Hourly pay range: $27.00 (minimum) to $27.00 (maximum).
• Shift differentials:
  • Night Differential: +$3/hr on weekday nights.
  • Weekend Differential: +$3/hr on weekend days.
  • Weekend Night Differential: +$6/hr on weekend nights.

Schedule

• Part-time.
• Day Shift or Night Shift: 7-7, Rotating 4 ON/4 OFF.

Visa Information

TTUHSC may initiate new H-1B I-129 visa petitions at its sole discretion, subject to approval from the Texas Workforce Commission. On a limited, case-by-case basis, the institution may sponsor eligible individuals for change-of-status or change-of-employer petitions for qualifying positions. TTUHSC will not pay the $100,000 fee, if applicable.
