About the Role
McGuireWoods’ Chicago office is seeking a Senior Associate or Counsel to join its growing Corporate and Private Equity Department. The department consists of more than 90 attorneys focused on all types of private equity transactions, including leveraged buy-outs, independent sponsor transactions, rollups, minority and junior capital investments, "going private" transactions, and purchases of troubled companies in or out of bankruptcy.
The team also represents emerging managers and other general partners in forming private equity, growth equity, venture capital, mezzanine, and real estate funds. The firm is a leading national law firm for emerging managers through its internationally acclaimed emerging manager program and consistently ranks among the top corporate law firms in benchmarking league tables published by PitchBook, Bloomberg, Mergermarket, and Refinitiv.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a first-chair leader, managing full client relationships beyond legal work.
- Lead private equity transactions and expand the firm’s national platform.
- Work independently with clients and colleagues while leveraging innovative technology platforms, including Harvey AI, to accelerate research, streamline document drafting, and enhance analytical work.
Requirements
- 6+ years of transactional experience, with significant experience in the private equity space preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to lead transactions and manage client relationships.
- Strong academic record, excellent writing and oral communication skills.
- Admission to the Illinois bar.
- Willingness to work with innovative technology platforms.

Pay
$390,000 - $425,000
