Corporate Accountant
About the role
This is not a heads-down, close-the-books-and-disappear kind of accounting job. As a Corporate Accountant at Huna Totem, you will be a trusted partner to leadership across a genuinely diverse portfolio — tourism, cultural programs, and strategic investments. You will work closely with a small, collaborative finance team, maintain the integrity of our general ledger, and help deliver the financial clarity that drives smart decisions for our shareholders and communities.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and post journal entries with accuracy and proper documentation
- Complete balance sheet and account reconciliations on a regular cycle
- Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes from start to finish
- Maintain the integrity of the general ledger across HTC and its subsidiary entities
- Financial Reporting & Analysis:
- Prepare financial statements and internal management reports
- Conduct variance analysis and dig into discrepancies — not just flag them, but explain them
- Support budgeting and forecasting activities across the organization
- Provide financial data and analysis that helps the team make confident, informed decisions
- Compliance, Audit & Continuous Improvement:
- Support external audits and respond to audit requests — organized, timely, and prepared
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and HTC's internal accounting policies
- Help maintain accounting procedures and process documentation
- Identify opportunities to do things better and bring those ideas forward
- Provide cross-functional backup support for Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Payroll as needed
Qualifications
- Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance preferred; 3–7 years of corporate accounting experience with full-cycle exposure; Experience supporting external audits preferred
- Technical Skills: Advanced Excel, including pivot tables and lookups; ERP systems experience required; Sage Intacct strongly preferred; Strong working knowledge of GAAP; CPA or active progress toward CPA licensure preferred

Schedule
Full-time, fully remote position. Occasional travel may be required, including to our Juneau, AK headquarters or operational sites. Travel may involve small aircraft. A valid driver's license is required for site visits. Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
