Job Summary and Purpose

The Coordinator of Assessments coordinates the administration of state and federally required assessments. The Coordinator ensures the state assessment program administered in Stafford Schools meets all state requirements including timelines, security, and efficiency. The Coordinator analyzes and disaggregates division-level data from assessments and screeners, collaborating across departments and with the Office of Technology to provide data to stakeholders. The coordinator facilitates professional learning in test implementation and analysis of data to inform instructional practices. The coordinator serves as the Division Director of Testing ("DDOT") for Stafford Schools.

Work Objectives/Essential Functions

  • Provides oversight of the administration of state-required assessments (Standards of Learning, WIDA Access, Virginia Alternative Assessment Program) by serving as the Division Director of Testing for Stafford Schools.
  • Completes all necessary documentation and reports required by the Virginia department of Education regarding the testing program.
  • Ensures that testing records, materials, and documentation is maintained according to the Library of Virginia retention schedule.
  • Trains all school School Testing Coordinators to implement state and federal assessments under the Virginia Assessment Program according to all state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Director on interpretation of the state accreditation/accountability system.
  • Collaborates with the Assistant Director to provide accountability results and data visualizations that align with the state's accreditation/accountability system.
  • Collaborates with the Office of Technology to provide data visualizations to school leaders.
  • Provides guidance to high school School Testing Coordinators on College Board assessments.
  • Analyzes, disaggregates, and displays data for division and school leadership teams from instructional screeners and assessments. The Coordinator will collaborate within and across departments to ensure data from assessments informs evaluation of Stafford Schools' programs and progress toward the Stafford Schools' Strategic Plan's priorities.
  • Provides professional learning on test administration, the use of testing accommodations, understanding and using a variety of reports to drive school improvement, and using Excel and/or Google sheets to manipulate, analyze, and display data.
  • Collaborates with other departments on the implementation of local alternative assessments and performance assessments, and awarding locally awarded verified credits.
  • Completes duties, as assigned, that support the mission of the Office of Research, Evaluation, and Strategic Improvement.

Education and Experience

Education Attainment (Required): Bachelor's degree in an educational field from an accredited college or university

Education Attainment (Preferred): Master's degree

Industry Licensure or Certifications (Required): Valid Virginia Professional License

Industry Licensure or Certifications (Preferred): Valid Virginia Professional License with an endorsement in Administration and Supervision

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience administering state assessments at the state, division, or school level.
  • In depth understanding of the current state and federal accreditation/accountability system, Virginia Standards of Learning assessments, alternate and alternative tests, and other required assessments.
  • Knowledge and understanding of assessments and screeners and their application in school settings to inform instruction and student placement in intervention programs.
  • Strong skillset of using spreadsheets and related technologies to organize, summarize, and facilitate data analysis related to individual student and student group achievement.
  • Quickly able to adapt to various technology applications or interfaces.
  • Adept at providing professional learning/training to both small and large groups.
  • Possesses an asset-based or strengths-based approach to problem-solving and team dynamics over deficit-based thinking.
  • Maintain a deep commitment to a growth mindset—viewing team capabilities, individual skills, and project roadblocks as evolving opportunities for development.
  • Skilled in appreciative inquiry and cultivating positive relationships with division and school based staff.
  • Maintains a customer-focused approach in daily interactions with school-based staff.
