Position Summary

This posting creates a pool of candidates for future positions that may become available. The Coordinator will provide instructional leadership for the Magnet Program at the assigned school, communicate with school and county administrators about program components and expectations, and collaborate with the Administrative Liaison to oversee, organize, and manage the Magnet program.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Works with the administrative liaison and Magnet counselor(s) to ensure students are scheduled in classes that meet Magnet Program requirements.
  • Maintains open communication with parents in areas such as student academic success, attendance, job shadowing, special events, family nights, and other related areas.
  • Keeps up to date on new teaching/learning trends within the magnet area of study and develops teacher capacity by leading teacher in-service, providing on-going professional development, and instructional supports.
  • Participates in recruitment activities to foster interest and application to the program by a diverse population.
  • Maintains open communication with parents in areas such as student academic success, attendance, job shadowing, special events, family nights, and other related areas through updated websites, magnet parent/student events, and regular emails and newsletters.
  • Facilitates collaborative planning within the department that focuses on the state approved curriculum, curriculum materials, formative and summative assessments, and ongoing data analysis to improve student learning.
  • Works collaboratively with other department chairs to foster cross-curricular connections and support for transdisciplinary magnet related lessons/overlays in all instructional areas.
  • Collaborates with administration and the ASP office in developing department goals consistent with the Magnet plan and county goals.
  • Partners with school administration and the Advanced Studies Program (ASP) office personnel to develop and implement the criteria and protocols of the Magnet Program and works collaboratively with administration and ASP office to develop and implement new initiatives for the Magnet program.
  • Makes recommendations based on the school improvement plan and monitors and observes its implementation.
  • Coordinates job shadowing/field trip activities including transportation, forms, approval, etc., organizes, schedules, and prepares for scheduled family nights.
  • Maintains data and documentation on multiple aspects of the magnet program.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field of education from a regionally accredited college or university required.
  • Three (3) years successful classroom teaching experience required.
  • Ability to create a team with internal and external stakeholders that works collaboratively and promotes high expectations for all students.
  • Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite -Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint preferred).
  • Hold or be eligible for professional educator certificate/license issued by Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) required.
  • Hold or be eligible for Driver's License (DL) Class C Non-Commercial issued by Maryland or State of Legal Residence (MVA/DMV) required; and Daily access to reliable transportation.
