About the role

The purpose of this class is to develop, maintain, and supervise the use of the College's costume collection, provide costumes from various sources as needed for individual Theatre and Dance productions, and manage costume shop and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build costumes for Theatre and Dance productions.
  • Maintain costumes, workshops, and storage shops.
  • Supervise and mentor part-time costume theatre associates and student crews.
  • Manage costumes and makeup for productions, other projects, and student organizations.
  • Oversee inventory, acquisition and control of costume collection.
  • Work with vendors for production purchases.
  • Manage shop, supplies and equipment.
  • Oversee the costume budget.
  • Maintain costume stock, shop safety, and industry-standard best practices.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Theatre Design or a closely related field, along with at least five years of professional experience required.
  • An MFA in Costume Design, Production, or a related field with a minimum of three years of similar experience is preferred.
  • A flexible schedule including evenings/weekends during production weeks required.
  • Ability to travel between three CCBC campuses (Essex, Dundalk and Catonsville) required.
  • A strong background in costume design, draping, tailoring, pattern making, dyeing, sewing (hand and machine) preferred.
  • Experience working in an educational institution is preferred.
  • Knowledge of both dance and theatre costume work is preferred.
  • Prior experience managing a costume shop is strongly preferred.

Pay

Compensation within the posted range is determined by a candidate's education level and/or years of experience in the field. Generally, employees are hired in the lower third of the scale.
