About the Role

Responsibilities

• Follow planned menus and prepare food items for resident and staff meals, as well as special events.
• Plan cooking schedule to ensure food is ready to serve on time.
• Prepare and cook food according to tested recipes and established guidelines.
• Prepare desserts, pastries, breads, and salads.
• Carve meats in required portions.
• Prepare food for special diets.
• Serve food timely and attractively in proper utensils, ensuring it is hot or cold as required.
• Prepare and cover trays for patients not coming to the dining room, as needed.
• Take requests for extra servings of food or beverages.
• Clear and clean tables in dining rooms when needed.
• Wash, rinse, and sanitize pots, pans, and service ware according to established procedures; assist with other cleaning tasks as needed or assigned.
• Keep stove, sinks, cabinets, tables, and equipment cleaned and sanitized.
• Maintain a clean department at all times, including sweeping, mopping, garbage removal, and equipment cleaning.
• Utilize the most sanitary methods to handle, prepare, and serve food.
• Assist with other dietary requirements as assigned, including paperwork.
• In the absence of the Dietary Director, assume responsibility for the dietary department and staff.
• If inadequate staff is available, find replacements and work an assignment if replacement staff cannot be found.

Requirements

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must purchase and wear the required uniform.
• Must be able to use equipment safely without jeopardizing the safety of self, others, or the equipment.
• Must use supplies economically.
• Must attend in-service training and other staff meetings as required.
• Demonstrate neat appearance and good personal hygiene.
• Must read, know, and follow personnel, department, and facility policies.
