Position Summary
The Cypress of Charlotte is recruiting for a hospitality focused Cook to join our Health Center team! This position is responsible for full-scope, hands-on production cooking in the Culinary Services Department.
Primary Responsibilities
- Ability to work all stations in the kitchen.
- Efficiently runs assigned station during the shift, follow all specs, and stock food as needed.
- Maintains the quality of food and plate presentation.
- Prepares all soups, stocks, sauces; boils, braises and roasts items as per standardized recipes.
- Prepares and serves all sautéed, fried, grilled, steamed and baked items as per standardized recipes.
- Prepares or directs the preparation of all food served, following standard recipes and special diet orders.
- Plans food production to coordinate with meal serving hours, so that excellence, quality, temperature and appearance of food is preserved.
- Determines amount and type of food and supplies required for daily menus and sees that supplies are obtained from storage areas in adequate time for meal production.
- Safeguards all sanitation and health department guidelines by maintaining cleanliness of station and assigned areas of the kitchen.
Qualifications
- SERVSafe Certification preferred.
- Experience in hospital or senior living preferred.
- Knowledge and experience with mechanical diets, food restrictions, allergies, etc.
- Able to perform simple arithmetic and understand measurements and conversions.
- A minimum of three years’ experience as a cook in a hospital or nursing home/health center preferred, or hotel, restaurant, club or similar institution.
- Able to plan and organize work, to interpret instructions, recipes, specifications and standards.
- Knowledge of kitchen equipment operations and maintenance.
- Some knowledge of nutrition and diet.
- Must be able to effectively communicate, read, write, and follow oral and written instructions in English.
