PeaceHealth is seeking a Cook for a Per Diem/Relief, variable position. The salary range is $22.62 – $35.33, with the hiring rate dependent on factors such as education, training, work experience, and terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement. This position is represented by a collective bargaining agreement.
About the Role
This position is responsible for using HACCP guidelines for safe food handling to plan, prepare, and cook food according to recipe and production standards to support hospital patients, medical staff, caregivers, volunteers, and visitors.
Responsibilities
- Accurately follow and prepare recipes.
- Prepare hot and cold food according to the recipe and following production and food styling guidelines, considering customer/patient counts.
- Maintain proper food handling techniques.
- Properly clean and sanitize workstation according to safety and sanitation guidelines.
- Organize, calculate, and produce food production.
- Maintain appropriate records according to regulatory and departmental standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent (Preferred).
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a cook in a hospital or full-service kitchen (Preferred), or a combination of experience and formal culinary training.
- Food Handlers Card – Oregon (Required).
- Professional Culinary Institute Certificate (Preferred).
- Oregon West Network – Sacred Heart Medical Centers: Two years’ experience working in institutional food service or equivalent.
Skills
- Knowledge and understanding of proper food handling and sanitation (Required).
- Ability to work well with others (Required).
- Proficient in MS Office applications (Required).
Working Conditions
Cooks:
- Continuous moving around the area.
- Lifting: Frequent up to 22 lbs, occasional up to 50 lbs.
- Occasional carrying up to 20 lbs.
- Frequent reaching, bending, stooping, grasping.
- Occasional squatting, kneeling.
- Frequent pushing/pulling 14 lbs sustained force with frequent stop/start.
- Occasional repetitive push/pull (scrubbing grill/oven).
Environmental Conditions:
- Must be able to complete tasks in a noisy environment.
- Working near/around heated surfaces (oven).
- Working near/around water/liquid.
Mental/Visual:
- Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).
- Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
