Pay

Salary range: $21.59 – $32.39 per hour. The hiring rate depends on education, training, work experience, collective bargaining agreements, seniority, and other factors.

Job Summary

This position uses HACCP guidelines for safe food handling to plan, prepare, and cook food according to recipe and production standards to support hospital patients, medical staff, caregivers, volunteers, and visitors.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately follow and prepare recipes.
  • Prepare hot and cold food according to recipes and production/food‑styling guidelines, taking patient/customer counts into account.
  • Maintain proper food‑handling techniques and adhere to HACCP safety standards.
  • Clean and sanitize workstations in accordance with safety and sanitation guidelines.
  • Organize, calculate, and produce food production.
  • Maintain appropriate records according to regulatory and departmental standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • May process all diet orders (including tube feeding) and build patient menus while working alongside the dietitian.
  • May personally visit each patient to ensure meal accuracy.
  • May use computer charting methods to communicate clarification on individual patient food needs.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (preferred).
  • Minimum of 2 years experience as a cook in a hospital or full‑service kitchen.
  • Food Handlers Card – Washington (required).
  • Professional Culinary Institute Certificate (preferred).
  • Knowledge and understanding of proper food handling and sanitation (required).
  • Ability to work well with others (required).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (required).

Working Conditions

Physical demands vary by role, including frequent lifting up to 22 lb (occasional lifts up to 50 lb), frequent reaching, bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, and pushing/pulling forces up to 30 lb. Work may involve noisy environments, heated surfaces (ovens), water/liquids, and requires normal vision and hearing (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted). Frequent computer use is required for charting and communication.
