Cook Helper/Assistant

Position Location

This position is located onsite at our Cleveland, Ohio office.

Job Overview

Aid the cook in preparing meals according to planned menus, within budgetary limits, and in compliance with government and management directives. Serve as a mentor for trainees and Center work base learning students (if applicable).

Responsibilities

• Prepare vegetables by washing, peeling, coring, grinding, shredding, or chopping, for use in entrees.
• Prepare meats for cooking by washing, trimming, boning, cutting, cubing, or forming into patties or loaves.
• Cook or bake items, which require minimal preparation.
• Help cook and serve meals, ensuring they are held and served at proper temperatures, and all leftovers are properly chilled and stored.
• Keep the food service area, tables, floors, and equipment clean and sanitary.
• Prepare desserts as needed.
• Assist with the appropriate storage of dry goods and freezer items.
• Maintain accountability of students and property; adhere to safety practices and OSHA standards.
• Cultivate and maintain a respectful environment on Center, free from harassment, intimidation, and disrespect, to ensure a safe space for staff and students.
• Promote student achievement of career success standards through modeling appropriate skills, mentoring students, monitoring their progress, and intervening when necessary.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

• Complete all mandated training requirements per government and management directives.
• Perform duties efficiently and cost-effectively.
• Communicate effectively verbally and in writing with all levels of Center staff and students.
• Develop positive working relationships with all departments.
• Ensure timely and accurate completion of all departmental work.
• Handle various situations professionally and courteously.
• Adhere to established company safety policies and work safely, using any required personal protective equipment (PPE) as needed.
• Comply with company standard operating procedures and personnel policies and procedures.

Job Requirements

• Mandatory: High school diploma or equivalent.
• Training in food preparation and one (1) year of experience.
• Must be able to obtain a Food Handler’s certificate within 30 days of employment.
• Successfully pass any background check and/drug test required on the contract.
• Ability to obtain & maintain valid Driver’s License and an acceptable driving record.

Preferred

• Previous experience in a commercial or institutional kitchen.
