Cook Assistant

About the role

Under the guidance of the Nutrition Specialist/Consultant, the Cook Assistant helps prepare and serve nutritious, well-balanced meals that encourage healthy eating habits among children. The Cook Assistant is responsible for managing time, energy, and materials effectively, while coordinating with other Head Start staff to support program operations. This role requires knowledge of sanitation, safety, and basic nutrition practices.

Responsibilities

• Washes dishes, pots, and pans; cleans and sanitizes kitchen area
• Assists with preparation and delivery of meals for children
• Provides coverage for the Head Start Cook during absences
• Follows all Federal, State, and local sanitation and food safety policies and procedures
• Maintains inventory of food, paper goods, and cleaning supplies; assists with required documentation
