Cook Assistant

About the Role

The Cook Assistant supports CPLC's Early Childhood Development (ECD) programs by assisting with full-day, full-year food services for low-income children ages 0-3 and their families. Under the direction of the Cook or Center Service Manager, this role ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including USDA guidelines, while promoting school readiness and maintaining a safe, healthy learning environment.

The Cook Assistant actively supervises children by sight and sound in all environments, facilitates health and safety practices, and maintains compliance with health regulations.

Responsibilities

• Assist with food preparation, service, and clean-up activities in a Colorado center-based early childhood setting.
• Ensure compliance with USDA guidelines and all applicable local, state, and federal food service regulations.
• Actively supervise children by sight and sound at all times and in all environments (indoor, outdoor, bus).
• Maintain health and safety standards to create an optimal learning environment.
• Facilitate health practices to ensure child safety in all settings.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED (required).
• One year of experience assisting with food preparation, inventory, or purchasing in educational or institutional programs (preferred).
• Education obtained outside the U.S. must be evaluated by an accredited organization for U.S. equivalency.
• Ability to communicate effectively with children, parents, and ECD staff.
