Controller
POSITION SUMMARY
The Controller is responsible for developing and implementing financial policies and procedures. The Controller oversees the day-to-day activities of the accounting team, including tracking and auditing financial information, analyzing financial records and transactions, and managing the accounting team members. They make sure the entire accounting department remains productive and efficient by assigning tasks and reviewing team members’ performances.
Job Essential Duties
- Oversee the accurate and timely preparation of monthly and annual financial statements and reports.
- Reviews general ledger monthly to ensure accuracy of reporting and reconciliations.
- Supervises, directs, and reviews the work of the accounting staff.
- Captures monthly and annual closing activities.
- Coordinates monthly and annual closing activities.
- Oversees external audit requirements and deadlines.
- Works closely with Budget and Financial management to monitor financial performance and make recommendations for improvement.
- Makes and implements recommendations to improve accounting processes and procedures.
- Manages the proposal preparation and/or post award activities for a large volume and diverse set of complex federal and non-federal sponsored grant awards.
- Review and reconcile grant expenditures, advise on post award spending and commitment activity, and oversee compliance related to fund and revenue.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Accruals basis accounting practices.
- Understanding of GAAP and Single Audit requirements.
- Remains current on accounting and reporting requirements.
- Excellent oral, written, and communication skills.
- Excellent analytical skill demonstrated proficiency in Excel and web-based tools.
- Strong accounting and reporting skills.
- Knowledge of procurement needs, bidding process, vendor payment requirements.
- Extreme attention to detail.
- Ability to review a proposal or manage a project with understanding of the overall scope and goal of each project.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Interpersonal Skills: Demonstrates the ability to work well with colleagues and clients and with external organizations.
Requirements & Preferences
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field required or a combination of education and experience 5 + years of experience in a similar role.
- CPA designation is strongly preferred.
- Microsoft Office Products – Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint proficiency required.

The Controller plays a pivotal role in the financial planning and decision-making processes of MCR Health. The Controller is responsible for developing and implementing financial policies and procedures, as well as managing the financial reporting and analysis functions of the organization's future expenses through current and past financial data. The Controller also performs key leadership and advisory functions, playing an active role providing financial guidance and support.
