Responsibilities

  • Work closely with other engineers and technical staff at the Nevada National Security Site to design and implement industrial control systems and related instrumentation that support dynamic physics experiments.
  • Design and implement PLC based control systems.
  • Develop and maintain PLC software, HMI screens, and SCADA infrastructure.
  • Assist with networking of control system components and systems.
  • Assist in debugging and commissioning of completed systems in lab and field settings.
  • Perform system maintenance, upgrades, and improvements.
  • Aid in the development of system design drawings, documentation, reports, and technical procedures.
  • Work closely with technical staff to ensure instrumentation and processes are implemented and fully tested.
  • Work under general supervision with limited guidance from more experienced team members.
  • Aid on several simultaneous projects.
  • Follow established engineering and technical procedures and instructions.
  • Define specifications for procurements and initiate purchase requests.
  • May travel to customer sites for program reviews, discussions, and field demonstrations of systems.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in an engineering program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) required for Civil, Mechanical and Electrical engineering degrees; Or, Calculus-based STEM bachelor’s degree in engineering; Or, for Architects, Certification from the National Council or Architectural Registration Board (NCARB) Or Professional Engineer license Plus at least 2 years’ relevant experience.
  • Experience: Experience with PLC-based control systems. PLC programming experience (any major platform). Experience or willingness to learn Ignition SCADA. Previous education or training with programming languages. PLC ideal, but other object-oriented programming experience is acceptable.
  • Skills: Experience adhering to software development processes and configuration management. CAD or Design experience (AutoCAD, Solidworks, EPLAN, etc.). Familiarity with industrial networking. Database development experience desired. Good technical writing and communication skills, and familiarity with PCs and PC application software such as MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Personal Attributes: Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to write reports and technical documents. Comfortable working both in office and field environments. Strong problem-solving and communication skills. Self-motivated and able to complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision. Ideal candidates should have strong time-management skills, be well organized, maintain safe work habits, and have a broad range of technical interests and education. Demonstrated desire to learn and innovate. Demonstrated ability to follow instructions, procedures and company policies.
