About the role

This role manages the full lifecycle of incoming and outgoing customer contracts, subcontracts, and government subcontracts within a construction-focused environment. You will review, redline, and negotiate contracts to ensure accuracy, mitigate risk, and align with company standards and best practices. Partnering closely with project, preconstruction, delivery, and legal teams, you will help shape and improve contract processes while supporting large, complex agreements.

Responsibilities

  • Review incoming and outgoing customer contracts, subcontracts, and government subcontracts for accuracy, risk exposure, and compliance with company standards and best practices.
  • Cook up with project teams, preconstruction, and delivery teams to ensure contract terms align with business objectives and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Meet established contract review turnaround times and service-level expectations while managing multiple contracts and priorities.
  • Negotiate final contract terms, conditions, and requirements with customers and vendors through execution, in consultation with the Legal team and senior leadership.
  • Prepare and revise amendments and redlines to protect company interests while supporting business needs and maintaining strong business relationships.
  • Cook up approvals from business leaders in accordance with the company’s designated approval matrix.
  • Maintain and update contractual information in contract management systems and other internal platforms to ensure accurate and timely communication across cross-functional teams.
  • Develop, establish, and maintain standard terms and conditions, including identifying and proposing acceptable alternative contract language when required.
  • Partner closely with the Legal team to manage the contract routing, review, and approval process from initiation through execution.
  • Serve as a liaison between the company and customers or vendors regarding claims or contract disputes, collaborating with the Legal team to support timely and effective resolution.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with customers, project teams, specialty contractors, vendors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders, reflecting the company’s core values.
  • Support Legal team initiatives, including contract-related training, continuous improvement efforts, and adoption of best practices.
  • Stay current on changes in applicable laws and regulations and ensure compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Adhere to ethical standards and professional conduct requirements in all contract-related activities.
  • Leverage AI-based tools, including document analysis platforms, to streamline contract review and redlining processes.
  • Field questions from preconstruction and project management teams regarding contract language, risk, and compliance, especially for large and complex contracts.
  • Work extensively with both company-generated contract forms and customer-provided contracts, including reviewing, redlining, and returning documents in a timely manner.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 4+ years of contracts experience, including redlining and contract review.
  • Demonstrated experience in construction contracts; construction industry background is required.
  • Strong proficiency in contract management, including drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contract terms and conditions.
  • Experience working with subcontracts and government subcontracts.
  • Proven ability to identify and mitigate contractual risk while supporting business objectives.
  • Strong negotiation skills, with experience collaborating with internal stakeholders and external customers or vendors.
  • Able to manage contract routing, approvals, and documentation within contract management systems.
  • A high attention to detail and accuracy in reviewing complex contractual documents.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain contract terms and implications to project, preconstruction, and project management teams.
  • Demonstrated initiative and self-direction, especially in environments without fully built-out playbooks or processes.
  • Able to meet established turnaround times and service-level expectations while handling large and complex contracts.
  • A commitment to ethical standards and professional conduct.
  • Able to stay current on applicable laws and regulations related to contracts and compliance.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in contracts management within large construction or electrical contracting projects.
  • Background in project management or close collaboration with project and preconstruction teams.
  • Familiarity with contract management systems and internal platforms for tracking and updating contract information.
  • Experience developing or refining standard terms and conditions and proposing alternative contract language.
  • Exposure to handling claims or contract disputes in partnership with Legal teams.
  • Comfort using AI tools and document analysis technologies to support contract review and redlining.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with customers, specialty contractors, vendors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and contract-related training.
  • Preference for candidates with experience working on large, complex contracts in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfort working in a distributed team with limited in-person oversight and a need for proactive communication.

Work Environment

You will join a small, distributed Contracts team that includes three other team members who may be located across different regions and not necessarily seated in a local office. The role offers flexibility to work fully remote, with a preference for candidates based in the Midwest, although this is not required. If you are located near an office and prefer to work on-site, that option is also available. Day-to-day collaboration will focus primarily on preconstruction and project management teams rather than direct interaction with a large number of external customers. You will handle a high volume of large and complex contracts, often prioritizing company-generated documents while frequently reviewing, redlining, and returning customer-provided contracts. The team leverages AI tools, including in-house document analysis solutions, to support contract review and redlining, and you will be encouraged to use these technologies to enhance efficiency and accuracy. The environment is evolving and does not have a fully built-out playbook, so you will have the opportunity to help shape processes and best practices. The culture emphasizes strong training, supportive colleagues, and a collaborative, enjoyable work atmosphere focused on professional growth and shared success.
