About the Role

The Contract Analyst will play a critical role within the Procurement Center of Excellence, ensuring operational integrity, continuity, and efficiency of the organization’s contract lifecycle. This position is responsible for managing the contract renewal pipeline, administering the Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM) system, and providing analytical support through reporting and contract dashboard maintenance. Additionally, this role involves drafting and negotiating contracts and amendments for services, collaborating with vendors, internal business, and Legal stakeholders to protect the interests of AEP. While this position does not represent AEP as legal counsel, a JD or legal background is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Procurement Planning: Assist in procurement planning by monitoring upcoming contract expirations and coordinating with stakeholders to ensure timely actions are taken.
  • Contracting: Draft, review, and negotiate low to moderately complex contracts and amendments using approved templates and pre-defined negotiation playbooks. Understand boilerplate terms and propose solutions for standard variances.
  • CLM System Administration:
    • System Ownership: Serve as the primary administrator for the CLM system, ensuring data integrity, user access management, and workflow optimization.
    • Workflow Management: Monitor contract workflows to ensure timely movement through legal, finance, procurement, and other stakeholder approvals.
    • Data Integrity: Regularly audit the CLM database to ensure accuracy of metadata (e.g., dates, parties, values, obligations) and update integrated systems accordingly.
  • Data Analytics and Reporting:
    • Dashboard Maintenance: Own and update Procurement dashboards (e.g., Power BI, Agiloft) to provide real-time visibility into contract status, spend, and expiration.
    • KPI Tracking: Generate periodic reports on key performance indicators such as contract cycle time, renewal success rates, and vendor compliance.
  • Template Management: Maintain the library of procurement templates, ensuring alignment with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Negotiation and Contract Management:
    • Lead the negotiation process through strategy development, issue recognition, and escalation for low to moderately complex negotiations.
    • Demonstrate experience in a moderate range of subject categories relevant to contract responsibilities.
    • Monitor contract deadlines for volume nominations, price reopeners, and term extensions.
    • Determine contract pricing, rates, and surcharges pursuant to escalation provisions.
    • Analyze vendor pricing claims and assist in negotiating settlements for changes-in-law and governmental impositions.
    • Coordinate, prepare, and track documents to declare, close, and quantify the impact of AEP force majeure events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of related contract and/or supply chain experience or equivalent work activities and projects.
  • Ability to follow company policies, practices, standards, and regulations.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and creativity in addressing challenges.
  • Highly detail-oriented with strong technical aptitude for system administration.
  • Ability to execute low to moderate complexity contracting activities while maintaining procurement schedules and deadlines.

Pay

Expected salary range: $65,000.00–$75,000.00 per year (USD). Compensation grade: SP20-005. Compensation range: $63,496.00–$79,369.00.

Schedule

The physical demand level for this job is Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may include walking or standing for brief periods.
