About the Role
The incumbent is responsible for structuring and/or administrating contractual documents that establish business relationships with contractors, customers and/or partners. Collaborates with internal partners, colleagues, and legal staff as necessary to structure contracts. Professional contracting services are provided in compliance with all UC policies and procedures and California contracting law. Analyzes and revises contracts as appropriate to ensure compliance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations, and policies. Advises management of contractual rights and obligations and provides interpretation of terms and conditions.
Responsibilities
- Structure, draft, review, edit, and negotiate various contract types and amendments in compliance with UC policies and risk tolerance.
- Identify potential contractors, conduct the bidding process, draft contract terms, and ensure compliance with contract terms through contract completion.
- Advise management on contractual rights and obligations and interpret terms and conditions.
- Identify and resolve business/legal issues between Privacy, Data Security, Risk, and Executive Leadership teams.
- Exercise discretion in managing sensitive information, including employee/student records, health/patient records, financial data, and strategic plans.
- Ensure sensitive information is properly safeguarded and shared only with individuals who have a legitimate business need to know.
- Represent UCI Medical Center in contract negotiations and convey contractual issues to medical center leadership, personnel, vendors, and customers.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of three years of experience in contract negotiations (less direct experience may be considered for candidates with substantial relevant business background).
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of specific contracting assignments.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to deal effectively with broad and diverse constituencies ensuring strong customer service orientation.
- Strong organizational, presentation, and negotiation skills.
- Excellent listening and political acumen skills.
- Demonstrated customer service skills and ability to build good relationships across the Hospital’s leadership and within various business units.
- Advanced skills in successfully utilizing contract negotiation tactics to achieve financial results beneficial to UCI Medical Center.
- Ability to work in a self-directed, self-motivated, fast-paced environment with changing deadlines and priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Thorough knowledge of internal departmental/unit operating policies, applicable state and federal regulations, and general contract terms.
- Thorough knowledge of California contracting law.
- Paralegal Certificate or J.D.
- Deep and current knowledge of the organization, including its infrastructure, goals, mission, rules, and policies.
