Responsibilities
- Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating construction-related contracts and agreements.
- Handling mechanic’s liens and bond claims, including performance bond and payment bond issues.
- Managing claims involving changed conditions, unforeseen site conditions, and scope disputes.
- Representing clients in disputes involving wrongful termination, abandonment, acceleration, delay, lost productivity, and liquidated damages.
- Addressing claims related to defective plans, specifications, and design issues.
- Assisting clients with bid protests and procurement-related disputes, when applicable.
- Advising clients throughout all phases of construction projects to mitigate risk and resolve disputes efficiently.
- Managing deadlines, filings, and procedural requirements across multiple jurisdictions.
- Maintaining strong client relationships through responsiveness, strategic guidance, and adherence to client guidelines.
- Accurately recording and maintaining billable hours while ensuring all deadlines are met.
Requirements
- Admission to practice in the State of New York is required (Admission to practice in Connecticut, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania is a plus).
- At least 5 years of experience practicing construction law.
- Demonstrated experience with construction contract drafting and review.
- Proven experience handling mechanic’s liens, bond claims, and construction-related disputes.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey complex legal and technical issues.
- Ability to manage multiple matters independently while collaborating effectively with team members.
