About the role
The Compliance Specialist supports the Workforce Continuing Education (WCE) compliance function by reviewing course records, maintaining audit documentation, assisting with reporting, and ensuring adherence to state, federal, and institutional requirements. This position works under the direction of the Compliance Manager to support audit readiness, internal controls, and regulatory compliance.
Essential job functions
- Reviews Workforce Continuing Education course records to ensure required documentation is complete, accurate, and aligns with audit standards
- Assists Compliance Manager with Workforce Continuing Education outlier reports, including overlap and underage
- Assists in gathering and documenting information from internal and external stakeholders to support audit reviews and compliance determinations
- Supports processes related to the call-in, archival, retention, and disposition of WCE course files
- Assists in the preparation and organization of WCE course files for the state's bi-annual compliance review and provides support during the review process
- Supports the implementation of policies, procedures, and communication processes developed by the Compliance Manager and Dean to ensure proper internal controls over course materials and student records
- Supports audit workflow processes and internal control activities to promote consistency, accountability, and compliance
- Participates in training opportunities and supports the delivery of compliance-related guidance to WCE staff and faculty

- Intermediate skills in MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel
- Excellent organizational skills

- Ability to maintain accurate records and statistical data
Requirements
- Associate's degree
- Three years' experience working with records and/or student data or an equivalent combination of education and experience

- Prior North Carolina Community College experience
