About the Role

The South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) is dedicated to impacting and transforming young lives, strengthening families, and supporting safer communities through targeted prevention and rehabilitation. This role involves planning, organizing, and supervising administrative activities in an assigned County office, while providing coordination and support for basic case management activities.

Responsibilities

  • Present a professional demeanor when working with the public.
  • Prepare correspondence and reports as needed.
  • Answer phones and route calls appropriately.
  • Provide database entry for all incoming materials, including reports from law enforcement, victims, and others.
  • Implement and maintain procedures for recording and filing administrative forms, reports, documents, and other materials.
  • Support the practice of electronic files.
  • Manage supplies and office inventories.
  • Operate and maintain standard office equipment.
  • Participate in job-related training and workshops for professional development.
  • Conduct other related duties as assigned, required, or requested.
  • Develop knowledge of Community-Based services and share service provider contacts to benefit juveniles, their families, and victims.
  • Perform duties relating to the custody, control, transportation, or recapture of youth within DJJ’s jurisdiction, including direct contact with youth.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma (related clerical experience may substitute for a high school diploma).
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the public in handling inquiries and sharing information.
  • Knowledge of word processing, current office management practices, and the ability to learn the Juvenile Justice Management System (JJMS).
  • Knowledge of grammatical rules, language usage, and report formatting.
  • Ability to organize and support office activities.
  • Familiarity with the care and operation of standard office equipment.
  • Ability to work with non-incarcerated and incarcerated youth and their families.
  • Some overnight travel for training as needed; ability to drive and travel throughout the state.
  • Ability to physically lift up to 25 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A high school diploma and two (2) years of clerical experience.
