About the role

The Community Center Coordinator I assists with supervising and conducting leisure activities at an assigned community recreation center. This role involves organizing and directing participants, scheduling facility use, maintaining equipment, and ensuring safe and proper operation of recreation programs and facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in conducting and supervising parks/recreational activities, including sports, athletic tournaments, leisure games, cultural arts, and other programs.
  • Assists in supervising, scheduling, and coordinating the use of community centers, parks, and facilities.
  • Demonstrates, organizes, teaches, and leads recreational activities for all age groups (6 to seniors).
  • Assists in supervising assigned personnel and volunteers.
  • Assists with maintenance and safety issues.
  • Assists in collecting and reporting fees and charges.
  • Keeps records and prepares reports.
  • Makes budget recommendations for center facilities and programs.
  • Completes special projects and performs other miscellaneous duties as required.
  • Organizes and directs daily operations of recreation programs, including scheduling facility use and maintaining equipment.
  • May lead classes or provide instruction in activities such as Zumba, basketball, or fitness training.
  • May be required to work beyond normal hours during inclement weather or other emergency situations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s Degree in Parks and Recreation preferred.
  • At least two (2) years of full-time experience in parks/recreational programming, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid Georgia driver’s license.

Skills

  • Knowledge of parks/recreational activities and facilities.
  • Knowledge of organizing athletic events.
  • Ability to work with diverse age groups (6 to seniors) and various group sizes.
  • Ability to keep accurate records and supervise subordinates when required.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
