About the role
The Division of Fish and Wildlife (FAW) is seeking a Communications Supervisor to provide day-to-day supervision for a team of communications professionals specializing in strategic communications, public and media relations, marketing, and event coordination. The team delivers an integrated, multi-platform public relations, public information, and marketing program that raises awareness of Minnesota’s fish and wildlife resources, increases participation in outdoor recreation opportunities, and strengthens outreach to diverse communities to better connect all Minnesotans to the outdoors.
This position requires occasional overnight and/or weekend trips to various locations across the state each year to attend special events, including four (4) high-level season opener events annually. The role has a flexible work arrangement and may be eligible for part-time telework, subject to change. If approved, the employee must complete a telework agreement and report to the primary work location occasionally for meetings, training, or onboarding.

Requirements
- Four (4) years of experience in marketing, public relations, or multi-platform communications with experience creating a variety of communications products
- Supervisory or lead work experience demonstrating the ability to direct work, manage conflict, hold employees accountable, support growth development, and train and motivate staff
- Knowledge of principles, tools, and techniques of communications and marketing sufficient to develop and implement successful outreach campaigns and manage a complex multi-platform public relations program, including communication plans across web, social, print, and other platforms
- Highly effective communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with diverse partners and multicultural communities
- Ability to conduct effective media interviews and establish relationships with the media
- Strong leadership skills, including the ability to maintain effective teams and manage, guide, and communicate with staff and partners at all levels
- Ability to handle urgent, time-sensitive communications and work directly with high-level leaders, including commissioners and division directors, on sensitive or high-visibility issues
- Project management skills sufficient to ensure projects are organized, tracked, and completed on a timely basis
- Knowledge of strategic planning, work planning, and budgeting sufficient to effectively manage the unit’s work
- Ability to foster an inclusive work environment and meet employee needs related to accommodation, scheduling, expectations, individualized resource needs, training, and development
- Willingness and ability to travel occasionally, including overnight stays, in various locations throughout the state or across the country for events, meetings, and trainings
- Unrestricted Class D Driver’s license with a clear driving record
- Ability to meet the physical requirements and work in the environmental conditions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in marketing, public relations, communications, natural resources, or other related field
- Knowledge of natural resources and/or outdoor recreation issues and interests
- Experience working with diverse communities, including multicultural media or outreach partners
- Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify issues, recognize problems, and develop actionable solutions
- Knowledge of performance measurement and program evaluation methods to ensure unit and program goals and objectives are achieved
- Ability to successfully manage and lead large, complex, multi-year projects or initiatives
- Proficiency in a second language spoken within Minnesota
Pay
$41.81 - $60.10 / hourly; $87,299 - $125,488 / annually
