Position Summary

The role supports the UHNW CRE Lending team, regional SLTs, AMs, and UHNW clients in managing and delivering the UHNW CRE product. Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting asset managers in the maintenance of Commercial Real Estate secured loans on Morgan Stanley’s balance sheet.
  • Corresponding directly with clients to request reporting requirements, including property and personal financial reporting, at least quarterly throughout the lifecycle of a loan.
  • Engaging in ongoing portfolio maintenance, including monitoring loan covenants, loan servicing, and ensuring accurate and timely updates of loan portfolio metrics/reports.
  • Evaluating lending opportunities specific to commercial real estate, including activities such as evaluating obligors, valuing the underlying collateral, determining alignment with the UHNW CRE lending program, and drafting credit approval memos.
  • Aiding the SLT in efficiently managing the transaction cycle from final credit approval to initial funding of the transaction, ensuring timely coordination with all parties involved.
  • Participating in ad hoc projects, including IT, procedural, regulatory, and audit-related tasks.
  • Contributing to the design and firm-wide rollout of artificial intelligence tools supporting underwriting and asset management processes.

Responsibilities

Will Include The Following:

  • Support asset managers in the maintenance of Commercial Real Estate secured loans on Morgan Stanley’s balance sheet.
  • Correspond directly with clients to request reporting requirements, including property and personal financial reporting, at least quarterly throughout the lifecycle of a loan.
  • Engage in on-going portfolio maintenance, including monitoring loan covenants, loan servicing, and ensuring accurate and timely update of loan portfolio metrics / reports.
  • Evaluate lending opportunities specific to commercial real estate, which will include activities such as: i) evaluating the obligors; ii) valuation of the underlying collateral; iii) determining if the opportunity aligns with the UHNW Commercial Real Estate lending program, and iv) drafting credit approval memos.
  • Aid the SLT in efficiently managing the transaction cycle through final credit approval, documentation, closing and initial funding of the transaction ensuring timely coordination with all parties involved including credit risk, financial advisors, private bankers, loan operations, compliance, in-house and external legal counsel and any other party who is, or should be, involved in the specific transaction.
  • Participate in ad hoc projects including IT, procedural, regulatory, audit as required.
  • Contribute to the design and firmwide rollout of artificial intelligence tools supporting underwriting and asset management processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in commercial real estate lending, asset management, underwriting, origination and/or credit analysis, Private Banking Lending experience is a plus.
  • Formal credit training a plus.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in either Excel, financial modeling, Power BI, Tableau, or Dataiku is a plus.
  • Experience designing automated process flows utilizing Python or SQL is a plus.

Pay

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $85,000 and $140,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
