PRIMARY FUNCTION

This highly visible position is responsible for successful management of the Credit Union's Commercial Lending. Responsible for origination and underwriting for the commercial lending offered by the Credit Union.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Effectively carries-out the essential duties in a manner that consistently demonstrates the core values of Notre Dame Federal Credit Union in a positive manner.
  • Manages Commercial Lending, including Loan Officers, if any.
  • Understands and can effectively apply commercial loan policies as well as evaluates and proactively responds to changes in regulatory, market, and competitive conditions with the ability to communicate changes, policies, etc. to staff.
  • Maintains a strong working knowledge of commercial lending including structuring, underwriting, and documenting commercial loan transactions.
  • Maintains awareness of changes in commercial lending field, including government regulation, commercial needs and preferences, and relationship-enhancements; these mandatory changes are known to keep our lending area updated systems and practices.
  • Maintains a working knowledge Small Business Administration (SBA) lending programs and regulations.
  • Successfully monitors and provides exceptional loan service by accepting and acting on loan applications from members so as to increase and maintain favorable member service survey scores.
  • Maintains loan documents in compliance with policy and federal regulations with no exceptions.
  • Collaborates with the Chief Lending Officer to communicate new ideas, plans, and business models as well as review existing loan products for improvement or elimination to increase Credit Union’s results and achieve strategic goals.
  • Measures levels of service, speed of delivery, and member satisfaction to establish metrics for standards of performance by staff and holds staff accountable for measured results.
  • Partners with the Chief Lending Officer to communicate new ideas, plans, and business models as well as review existing loan products for improvement or elimination to increase Credit Union’s results and achieve strategic goals.
  • Participates in community affairs to increase Credit Union’s visibility and to enhance new business opportunities as necessary.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Directly supervises partners (other Commercial Lenders, if any), especially pertaining to sales performance and the sales pipeline.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • An individual must have a Bachelor’s degree (MBA preferred, but not required) Have a minimum of five (5) years of experience in Commercial Lending for a large credit union or other financial institution. Prior management experience a plus.
  • Language skills: A qualified individual must be able to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. This position will require the ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals and strong communication skills are necessary to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, the Board of Directors, and individual members. This person will make formal presentations on Commercial lending or general Commercial credit to groups outside of the Credit Union.
  • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: This position will require the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Also, the ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry is necessary.
  • Reasoning ability: A qualified person must be able to solve practical problems and to deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Also, the ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form will be required.
  • Other skills & abilities: This position will require the use of Credit Union's computer system for input/output transactions. Such use includes, but not limited to, retrieval of information, printing out individual statements of account, inputting data, updating information, special access to certain fields, and general maintenance of the credit/lending financial and ancillary records. In addition, this person must be able to utilize a variety of software programs such as Excel and Word. A qualified individual will also need the ability to utilize on-screen loan processing provided by the Credit Union's core processing or by a stand-alone Personal Computer system tied to the core system as well as other ancillary software programs. Also, the ability to operate standard office machines such as a photocopier; fax machine, personal computer and any such equipment normally found in a modern loan department of a bank or credit union.
  • Demonstrates leadership skills by knowledge of area; ability through staff to meet goals and member service levels; hold staff accountable to agreed metrics, as well as interact with all levels of the organization in a professional manner.
