Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Supports and demonstrates IMA’s core values

  • Manages, leads, and develops direct reports, from entry level to Senior Account Executives, and has ultimate responsibility of service teams within the department
  • Performs functions of the role within an IMA office more than 75% of the time
  • Maintains and coordinates training and development of all service team members
  • Sets up and transfers new accounts and accounts among staff to maintain workable workloads
  • Ensures quality control standards of the team are continually maintained
  • Leads new and renewal insurance company marketing processes
  • Conducts regular coaching and performance review meetings with team members and completes documentation as established by Human Resources
  • Collaborates with Industry Practice Leads to support practice strategies
  • Develops marketing strategy for new and renewal business and prepares, submits, and negotiates new and renewal marketing to insurance carriers
  • Develops a service plan tailored to clients' needs and coordinates the services of other IMA departments (Risk Mgt., Claims, Complex Risk, Contract Review, etc.)
  • Prepares and leads internal and client-facing business reviews to ensure level of service and adequacy of clients' program design based on their business needs and risk tolerance
  • Communicates with the producer throughout the renewal process and life cycle of the client including them in client meetings and internal client strategy meetings
  • Attends education classes, seminars, etc. in combination with individual study programs to expand knowledge and skills
  • Participates in industry-specific associations and networking events to cultivate relationships within the industry and expand the IMA brand
  • Attends carrier functions to represent IMA and further cultivate carrier underwriter and management relationships
  • Supports the department by participating in completion of all duties required to complete a project and service a client
  • Serves as a leadership champion of organizational initiatives
  • Communicates with market president regarding department strategies, needs, and performance

Connecticut Role Specific Required Experience and Skills

  • Extensive experience marketing and servicing mid-to-large clients in the construction vertical. Working knowledge of the real estate, hospitality and non-profit industries also preferred.
  • Adept insurance practitioner with ability to both be the lead AE to manage a moderate sized book of business as well as be the senior technical advisor on placement and coverage to support the AE and producer on the department’s largest accounts while also managing the department. Equal ability in property/builder’s risk and primary and excess casualty are preferred. A working knowledge of surety, management liability, pollution and professional coverages will be considered a plus.
  • Demonstrated capabilities to contribute to the P&C sales process by being a key technical contributor with the ability to discuss the client-industry and insurance influencing issues to prospective customers in support of the producers.
  • Proficiency in managing the expense side of the P&L through an ability to optimize organizational structure and role clarity within a commercial lines business.
  • Overall IMA required experience and skills:
    • At least 10 years of similar or related industry experience preferred
    • 5-10 years of management/leadership experience preferred
    • Ability to learn and navigate within Agency Management System (EPIC)
    • Intermediate experience with MS Office products preferred (specifically PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
    • Attains and maintains professional designation – i.e., ARM, CPCU, CIC, etc.
    • Property and Casualty insurance license required for state of business
    • Moderate travel required (25-50%)
    • Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent experience
    • Strong written, oral and communication skills
    • Possesses a significant level of trust and diplomacy
    • Possesses the ability to influence those not reporting directly to you
