About the role
This is a remote position with 15%-25% traveling across the Viant facilities.
What you will do
- Develop accurate and timely cost estimates for new injection molding and assembly business from customer provided information using Viant costing tools and engineering knowledge.
- Analyze prints, solid models, specifications and other information to determine the most cost effective process to manufacture molded components and plastic part based assemblies.
- Supports improvements to the quoting process to increase our win rate and overall team efficiency.
- Determines appropriate Viant manufacturing sites for new business.
- Communicates with the targeted sites engineering and leadership teams to determine lead times, NRE costs, capacity availability and capital expense requirements.
- Determines Viant capital investment required and resultant payback.
- Supports proposal development for targeted opportunities.
- Determines customer funded NRE and capital required.
- Works with the sales and key site team members to determine optimal price point that maximizes Viant profitability while offering competitive pricing that enables Viant to win new business.
- Ledds the approval for quotes based on revenue level, production site and customer.
- Includes interaction up to CEO, CFO, COO and CCO level to optimize Viant approach.
- Represents the organization as a key technical contact for molding opportunities through participation in customer meetings as needed to explain our approach, solicit critical information, and collaborate with the customer to deliver a solution that meets their needs.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent experience.
- 10+ years of injection molding experience in the healthcare/medical device industry, including at least 5 years in a related technical or commercial role.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing process technologies, with specific expertise in: Injection molding / Injection mold tooling / Medical device assembly.
- Experience quoting plastic components in IQMS preferred.
- Experience managing Bills of Materials (BOMs) in IQMS preferred.
Technical Knowledge
- Strong understanding of injection molding production processes.
- Proficient in SolidWorks for part analysis and cost model development, including: Part weight analysis, Projected area calculations, Design for Manufacturability (DFM) reviews.
- Able to accurately estimate: Cycle times, Runner weights, Scrap rates, Labor requirements, Machine size and type, Automation requirements.
- Strong cost accounting and cost estimating expertise.
- Able to develop material and labor requirements to identify the most cost-effective manufacturing approach.
- Strong understanding of financial analysis tools and Return on Investment (ROI) modeling.
- Able to read and interpret product design drawings used within the medical device industry.
- Able to use SolidWorks to manipulate models and drawings and extract information required for cost analysis and quoting.
Quoting & Supplier Management
- Able to collect and analyze all information required to generate accurate and timely cost estimates.
- Able to interface with suppliers to obtain pricing for: Resins, Packaging, Purchased components and materials.
- Consult with vendors and cross-functional teams to develop pricing estimates and resolve technical or commercial issues.
- Prepare and maintain supplier, contractor, and subcontractor databases/directories.
- Able to manage multiple estimates simultaneously while maintaining awareness of project status and follow-up requirements.

- Strong mathematical aptitude, including the ability to apply: Percentages, Ratios and proportions, Statistical concepts, Geometric and trigonometric principles.
- Able to analyze technical, business, and regulatory information and apply findings to practical situations.
- Able to solve complex problems involving multiple variables and limited standardization.
- Able to interpret written, verbal, diagram-based, and schedule-based instructions.

- Able to communicate effectively with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
