About the Role
This is a unique opportunity for an experienced accounting professional who wants to move beyond traditional accounting and understand how the numbers connect to the commercial side of the business. You will work closely with Commercial Administration and Central Accounting to provide accurate financial information, reconcile commercial and hedge positions, investigate discrepancies, and improve transparency around financial and risk-management activities. This is a manager-level position without direct people-management responsibility initially. The role is based 100% in the office in Camden.
Responsibilities
- Reconcile hedge accounts and commercial positions to ensure financial information is accurate and complete.
- Investigate discrepancies and determine the connection between commercial transactions, hedging activity, and accounting entries.
- Reconcile accounts and support A/R and A/P reconciliation.
- Review transactions to understand what has been purchased, sold, invoiced, paid, and remains outstanding.
- Analyze financial information to identify profitability, losses, exposures, and discrepancies.
- Maintain accurate and controlled financial data.
- Work closely with Commercial Administration and Central Accounting to provide transparency into the company's financial position.
- Partner with Commercial, Operations, Procurement, Inventory, and Logistics teams to understand the financial impact of business activity.
- Support analysis involving inventory, contracts, pricing, hedging, and risk management.
- Develop financial and analytical models to support commercial decision-making.
- Support month-end close and financial reporting.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting controls, processes, reporting, and transparency.
- Develop increasing knowledge of commodity markets and risk-management activities as you grow in the role.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Several years of progressive accounting experience with a strong hands-on accounting foundation.
- Strong experience with account reconciliation and investigating discrepancies.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work with complex financial information.
- Strong Excel and ERP/system skills.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of your work.
- Curiosity about how accounting connects to commercial and operational activities.
- Ability to learn new concepts and work through complex transactions.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work with both finance and non-finance teams.
