College of Arts & Letters - Part-time Lecturer Pool

About the role

The College of Arts and Letters (CAL) at California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) invites applications for a part-time lecturer with expertise in digital humanities, immersive media, and virtual reality. The successful candidate will teach courses in areas such as digital humanities, immersive storytelling (virtual reality, mixed reality, augmented reality, 360-degree video), and related emerging technologies.

Responsibilities

• Teach one or more sections of courses related to digital technologies, with a focus on scholarship and creative practice in the arts and humanities, immersive and interactive media, and virtual reality.
• Prepare course materials.
• Mentor students on course projects.
• Teach assigned courses.
• Evaluate student coursework.
• Grade assignments.
• Hold regular, weekly office hours according to university guidelines.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

• A Master of Arts/Master of Fine Arts degree in Communication Studies, Art History, English, Design, Information Science, or a suitably related discipline.
• Familiarity with immersive media formats, including virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and/or mixed reality (XR).
• Taught at least one course at the college level.
• Ability to teach at the intersection of theory and practice, introducing foundational concepts to students with varying levels of prior experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• A Doctoral degree in Communication Studies or a related field.
• Evidence of scholarly activity, publication, and innovation.
• Evidence of exemplary graduate-level teaching and leadership experience at program level.

Special Conditions

• The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
• Following a conditional offer of employment, a background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate may start work with CSUSB.
