Department of Theatre Arts - Part-time Lecturer Pool
About the role
Both our lower-division and upper-division undergraduate courses are 1-unit, 2-unit, or 3-unit courses. Each is taught twice a week on campus (at our San Bernardino campus) during the Fall and Spring semesters (15 weeks each).
Responsibilities
- Prepare all materials for teaching assigned courses.
- In-class teaching.
- Evaluate student coursework and grade assignments.
- Teach according to department guidelines.
- Hold limited office hours for meeting with students.
Requirements
Master of Fine Arts degree in Theatre Arts, or a suitably related discipline. Candidates with compensating industry experience will also be considered. Required qualifications: Degree in hand by time of appointment (MFA in Theatre, or equivalent/suitably related discipline), demonstration of teaching experience at higher education level.
Preferred Qualifications
- Evidence of scholarly activity, production experience, publications are valued.
About the Department
The mission of the Department of Theatre Arts at CSUSB is to provide our students with a thorough grounding in the theory and practice of theatre. The curriculum places particular emphasis on developing aesthetic awareness of the individual theatrical arts and exploring their collaborative relationships. Students gain experience in all aspects of theatre, from history, analysis, criticism, acting, directing and playwriting to lighting design, set design, costume design, and much more. The program is designed to prepare students for careers in a variety of fields, including the entertainment industry, education, and business.

- Evidence of teaching effectiveness: such as teaching portfolios, reports on teaching observations, and/or student evaluations of teaching.
- Unofficial copies of all postsecondary degree transcripts (official transcripts may be required prior to appointment).
- A reference list - names, telephone numbers, and email addresses of three (3) referees whom we may contact to obtain letters of recommendation.
Special Conditions
- The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
- A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate may start work with CSUSB. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may result in the withdrawal of the offer of employment.
- Current employees who are offered positions on campus will be required to undergo a background check for any position where a background check is required by law or that CSUSB has designated as sensitive.
Salary
- Salary is commensurate with experience.
- Lecturer A (Range 2): $5,507 – $6,677
- Lecturer B (Range 3): $6,221 – $13,224
- Lecturer C (Range 4): $6,825 – $14,523
- Lecturer D (Range 5): $8,593 – $15,211
