Requirements

• Must have at least 12 months of consecutive work history with one employer and no additional job gaps in employment greater than 6 months in the past 36 months (extended to 18 months for layoffs or child/elder care)
• Previous work history does not apply to applicants who have been full-time students consecutively for the last 36 months
• Rehire criteria: minimum waiting period of 180 days; no more than 3 prior employments at Cobb/Tyson Foods
• Must reside in the United States to be considered for an interview
• Priority consideration for internal applicants and those with previous agricultural or production experience
• Ability to pass a pulmonary function and respirator fit test

About the Role

This position is responsible for inspection of chicks in the hatcher to ascertain quality and fitness for processing. Chicks will be monitored in the hatcher baskets to help determine pull times and/or hatcher adjustments.

• Initial check starts around 9:00 AM and includes removing hatch buggies, counting hatched chicks, taking rectal temperatures, and calculating hatcher adjustments
• Additional checks required every two hours using other monitoring methods
• Perform required quality assurance (QA) checks in other areas of the hatchery

Responsibilities

• Pre-pull assessments (50%)
• Quality Assurance checks (25%)
• Assist maintenance, fill in other areas of the hatchery (e.g., processing, Embrex, sanitation) (25%)

Biosecurity/Animal Welfare Requirements

• Showering on-site and changing clothing/footwear before entering the facility (provided by the company)
• No external jewelry permitted (excluding medical ID bracelets/necklaces)
• Only body piercings covered by on-farm clothing are permitted
• Must agree not to own or avoid any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.)
• Must sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Animal Welfare Guidelines

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Must be able to lift/move 50 lbs. and push/pull 1,000–1,500 lbs. (on wheels)
• Regularly required to stand (majority of shift on concrete floor), walk, sit, use hands, reach, balance, stoop, bend, talk, or hear
• Specific vision abilities: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required: respirator, safety glasses, goggles, face shield, chemical gloves, waterproof apron, rubber boots, and ear plugs as needed
• Chemicals commonly used: Formaldehyde, disinfectants, lubricants, and Virocid (Synergize)
• Work on wet, slippery surfaces and in hot, dry, dusty, wet, and cold environments
• Follow all safety policies and procedures (Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, Lockout/Tagout, PPE)
• Identify, address, and mitigate safety-related risks

Schedule

Shift: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, including holidays, beginning at 8:00 AM until the job is complete. Typically averages 40+ hours per week. Hours are subject to change depending on production needs.
