About the role

This position is responsible for the wellbeing of the chicks in the hatchers to make sure they are comfortable at all times during the shift, checking seals inside setters. Others duties may be assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Assess chicks comfort level by analyzing vent temperatures and normal traits of chicks every hour and a half until chicks are pulled.
  • Enter information into an Excel Spreadsheet.
  • Read and record setters and hatcher rooms temperatures.
  • Assist maintenance to insure trays are turning correctly on the setter buggies.
  • Dump cull eggs, pull empty farm and setter buggies to the Egg Room.
  • Sort chicks to remove cull birds in accordance to Animal Welfare standards.
  • Euthanize weak/ill chicks in accordance with company policy.

Requirements

  • Must have at least 12 months of consecutive work history with one employer and no additional job gaps in employment greater than 6 months in the past 36 months.
  • Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.).
  • Must be willing to sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Company Animal Welfare Guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Must be willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must regularly pull empty farm and setter buggies on casters weighing approximately 200 pounds.
  • Must regularly dump cull eggs weighing approximately 12 pounds.
  • Must regularly push/pull setter buggies on casters weighing up to 700-1300 pounds.
  • Must occasionally lift chick boxes weighing approximately 15 pounds.
  • Must be able to regularly bend, stoop and reach above head.
  • Must be able to obtain scissor lift certification.

Pay

Starting Pay: $18.00 per hour plus additional shift differential for evenings, nights and weekends.

Schedule

Work schedule is subject to change based upon production needs. Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Hours: 8:00 AM until the job is complete. Averages 8 to 10 hours per shift.
