Co Youth/Confirmation Ministry Coordinator

Full-time, non-exempt position – 40 hours per week, including weekends and evenings. Pay range: $25–35 per hour, commensurate with experience, education, and qualifications.

About the Role

The Co-Youth/Confirmation Minister Coordinator drives the parish’s mission to evangelize, catechize, and form disciples among youth in grades 6–12. This leadership role designs, oversees, and executes dynamic ministry initiatives, including youth evangelization, Sacramental preparation, and the SALT (San Antonio Leadership Team) leadership program. The role builds an intentional culture of outreach and community, guiding young people from their initial encounter with Jesus Christ into ongoing discipleship and active participation in the full life and mission of the Catholic Church.

Responsibilities

• Sacramental Preparation
  • Curriculum: Plan, design, and execute a two-year Confirmation preparation program aligned with diocesan guidelines.
  • Catechetical Leadership: Choose and adapt relevant faith formation materials. Lead catechist formation and ongoing training.
  • Retreats & Service: Organize, attend, and lead mandatory candidate retreats and parish community service projects.
  • Sponsor & Parent Formation: Provide meaningful gatherings and resources to support parents and sponsors in their role as primary faith mentors.
  • Records Management: Ensure all sacramental paperwork, release forms, and attendance data are maintained.
• Comprehensive Youth Ministry
  • Youth Programs: Maintain a year-round calendar of spiritual, social, and service opportunities for middle and high schoolers.
  • Liturgical: Collaborate with parish staff to coordinate "Youth Masses," encouraging teens to serve as lectors, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, and hospitality ministers.
  • Community: Build relationships by being visible and approachable at parish events. Participate in parish-wide faith formation initiatives.
• Leadership & Volunteer Management
  • Volunteers: Recruit, screen, and train adult volunteers to assist in youth ministry programming, ensuring all volunteers are registered at the parish.
  • Safe Environment Compliance: Ensure all volunteers strictly adhere to the Safe Environment training according to Roman Catholic Bishop of Orange (RCBO) guidelines and clear background fingerprinting.
  • SALT Ministry: Mentor older youth to take on leadership roles within the program.
• Communication & Administration
  • Outreach: Oversee Youth Ministry and Confirmation communications. Promote events via the parish bulletin, social media channels, and the parish website.
  • Budget: Work with the Faith Formation Director to manage the annual youth ministry budget and direct local fundraising efforts.
  • Facilities: Reserve and schedule rooms via ParishStaq, keeping the calendar up to date. Maintain organization of the office, storage, and youth room.
  • Staff Collaboration: Participate in parish staff meetings and attend regional diocesan training days. Perform other duties as assigned by the Faith Formation Director.

Requirements

• Faith Commitment: Must be a practicing Catholic in good standing, deeply committed to the teachings and Magisterium of the Catholic Church. Commitment to ongoing spiritual formation, including growth in theological knowledge and ministry skills.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Theology, Religious Studies, Pastoral Ministry, or a related field is highly preferred. High School Diploma or GED required. Diocesan Youth Ministry or Catechetical Certification is a strong plus.
• Experience: 2–3 years of experience leading parish youth ministry or high school confirmation programs.
• Skills: Strong organizational skills, proficiency with digital communication platforms, and dynamic public speaking abilities.
• Availability: Able to work evenings and weekends as needed to accommodate parish programs and events.

Work Conditions

• Primarily office-based within the parish premises, requiring frequent use of office equipment such as computers, telephones, printers, and filing systems.
• Evening and weekend work required to support parish programs and events.
• Must be available to adjust schedule as needed to meet the needs of the parish community and ministry activities.
• Regular interaction with children, youth, adults, and volunteers in a professional and faith-based environment.
• Some local travel may be required for parish and diocesan meetings or events.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to remain seated for extended periods while performing administrative tasks.
• Frequent walking, standing, and moving around the parish campus to support programs and events.
• Ability to lift and carry items up to 35 pounds, such as program materials, supplies, and event equipment.
• Manual dexterity required for operating office equipment, creating materials, and managing resources.
• Visual and auditory ability to communicate effectively with staff, volunteers, and parishioners in person, via email, and by phone.
• Ability to set up and dismantle chairs, tables, and other equipment needed for department and parish activities.
