About the role

The Youth Ministry Coordinator will enhance the holistic spiritual development of Ashland community children and teens by providing direction and implementation for all relevant ministry opportunities of the Kroc Center. Specific attention will be given to evangelism & outreach, discipleship, mission, and supporting the ministry of the corps.

This position plays a vital role in carrying out The Salvation Army’s religious mission and job performance will be reviewed, in part, on how well Christian behavior is modeled and infused in work and life. Due to the influential nature of this position, as essentially a key youth leader, the Youth Ministry Coordinator role requires active, engaged participation at the Ashland Kroc Corps.

Responsibilities

  • Participate and lead prayer, model and reflect Christian behavior, teach/instruct youth in religious principles, and be responsible for youth faith formation.
  • Care for and support youth activities such as Junior Soldiers, Corps Cadets, Bible Bowl, Performing Arts Programs, VBS, etc.
  • Develop and implement new ministry initiatives and discipleship opportunities for children and teens as the need arises & time/budget allows.
  • Work in unity with the Corps Officers and Young Peoples Sergeant Major (where applicable) to ensure programming excellence in all aspects of youth ministries.
  • Provide leadership and support as needed for youth activities such as, Junior Soldiers, Corps Cadets, Bible Bowl, Performing Arts Programs, VBS, etc.
  • Assist with recruitment, coordination, transportation, and supervision of children and youth participation in divisional and territorial programming including (but not limited to) Youth Councils, MAP, Jr. Soldier/Troops Rallies, The Salvation Army Camp.
  • Serve as the “mission integration specialist” for the Kroc Center Learning Zone, before/after-school program and summer day camp, including to lead and organize a weekly chapel and offer other electives/ corps program opportunities in coordination with the Learning Zone director.
  • Engage in children and teen programs at the Kroc- such as Family Fun Night, Middle School Night, Kroc Soccer, LifeWise Academy- to bridge youth to the corps through visibility, relationship building and intentional spiritual impact.
  • Develop and implement strategies that help children, teens, & families understand who The Salvation Army is as a church and provide entryways into the church fellowship.
  • Attend and participate in corps council and Kroc staff meetings, as assigned by the Administrators/ Corps Officers.
  • Support and assist corps officers with spiritual ministry, as needed and assigned- such as, but not limited to corps programs, corps/Kroc special events, seasonal ministries.
  • Follow through on administrative duties of the position, including the timely submission of related attendance and statistics, adherence to the Corps Operating Budget, consistent Outlook e-mail correspondence, and maintenance of Corps Youth Ministry program resources.
  • Serve as the Kroc Center liaison for community youth ministry events & programs.
  • Attend youth ministry training events conducted by the Division and/or Territory, as directed by the Administrators/ Corps Officers.
  • Perform other reasonable tasks which may be assigned, as needed.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years old;
  • A bachelor’s degree in youth ministry or a related field is preferred, or relevant work experience;
  • Must have experience in ministry with children and/or teens;

Qualifications

  • Display an understanding of and support of the Mission Statement of The Salvation Army, and understand the importance of flexibility in relation to this position and accomplishing the mission;
  • Have a lifestyle consistent with the principles of Salvation Army Soldiership;
  • Have strong personal Christian values and high moral character;
  • Adhere to employee guidelines set forth by The Salvation Army USA Eastern Territory, NEOSA Division and the Kroc Center;
  • Show creative program ability;
  • Show strong organizational skills;
  • Be a team member, taking initiative and assisting others as needed, and function in a work-alone situation to complete tasks;
  • Be able to work and relate well with people, maintaining a professional attitude and approach to problem solving;
  • Have a valid driver’s license and be able to be approved to drive a Salvation Army vehicle;
  • Maintain updated KeepSAFE child and vulnerable persons safety training;
  • Complete a “Webcheck” fingerprint background check, the expense of which will be reimbursed by the Kroc Center after 90 days.
