Youth Ministry Coordinator

General Purpose Of Position

The Youth Ministry Coordinator will seek to enhance the holistic spiritual development of Ashland community children and teens by providing direction and implementation for all relevant ministry opportunities of the Kroc Center. Specific attention will be given to evangelism & outreach, discipleship, mission, and supporting the ministry of the corps. This position plays a vital role in carrying out The Salvation Army’s religious mission and job performance will be reviewed, in part, on how well Christian behavior is modeled and infused in work and life. Due to the influential nature of this position, as essentially a key youth leader, the Youth Ministry Coordinator role requires active, engaged participation at the Ashland Kroc Corps.

Responsibilities

• To further The Salvation Army’s Christian mission at the Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in Ashland.
  • Participate and lead prayer, model and reflect Christian behavior, teach/instruct youth in religious principles, and be responsible for youth faith formation.

  • Coordinate and implement the evangelism, discipleship, & leadership development of the young people involved in corps programs, such as Junior Soldiers, Corps Cadets, Performing Arts programs, Sunday School, etc.
  • Develop and implement new ministry initiatives and discipleship opportunities for children and teens as the need arises & time/budget allows – examples could include youth group, Bible bowl, Mission Literacy, small group formation, etc.
  • Work in unity with the Corps Officers and Young Peoples Sergeant Major (where applicable) to ensure programming excellence in all aspects of youth ministries.
  • Regular contact and visitation of those who participate in youth activities and their families.
  • Provide leadership and support as needed for youth activities such as, Junior Soldiers, Corps Cadets, Bible Bowl, Performing Arts Programs, VBS, etc.
  • Aid in recruitment, coordination, transportation, and supervision of children and youth participation in divisional and territorial programming including (but not limited to) Youth Councils, MAP, Jr. Soldier/Troops Rallies, The Salvation Army Camp.
  • Serve as the “mission integration specialist” for the Kroc Center Learning Zone, before/after-school program and summer day camp, including to lead and organize a weekly chapel and offer other electives/ corps program opportunities in coordination with the Learning Zone director.
  • Participate and engage in children and teen programs at the Kroc- such as Family Fun Night, Middle School Night, Kroc Soccer, LifeWise Academy- to bridge youth to the corps through visibility, relationship building and intentional spiritual impact.
  • Develop and implement strategies that help children, teens, & families understand who The Salvation Army is as a church and provide entryways into the church fellowship.
• To serve as the Kroc Center liaison for community youth ministry events & programs.
• To attend and participate in corps council and Kroc staff meetings, as assigned by the Administrators/ Corps Officers.
• To provide support and assist corps officers with spiritual ministry, as needed and assigned- such as, but not limited to corps programs, corps/Kroc special events, seasonal ministries.
• To follow through on administrative duties of the position, including the timely submission of related attendance and statistics, adherence to the Corps Operating Budget, consistent Outlook e-mail correspondence, and maintenance of Corps Youth Ministry program resources.
• To act as the Kroc Center liaison for community youth ministry events & programs.
• To attend youth ministry training events conducted by the Division and/or Territory, as directed by the Administrators/ Corps Officers.
• To serve as a daytime, evening or weekend manager for the entire facility along with the rest of the full-time professional staff. This includes “Manager on Duty” responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Minimum Education and/or Experience: Must be at least 21 years old; A bachelor’s degree in youth ministry or a related field is preferred, or relevant work experience;
• Experience in ministry with children and/or teens;
• Special Skills, Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must display an understanding of and support of the Mission Statement of The Salvation Army, and understand the importance of flexibility in relation to this position and accomplishing the mission;
• Lifestyle consistent with the principles of Salvation Army Soldiership. Strong personal Christian values and high moral character;
• A working knowledge of and abide by the Kroc Center Code of Conduct & Policies;
• Adhere to employee guidelines set forth by The Salvation Army USA Eastern Territory, NEOSA Division and the Kroc Center;
• Strong organizational skills;
• Able to be a team member, taking initiative and assisting others as needed, and function in a work-alone situation to complete tasks;
• Able to work and relate well with people, maintaining a professional attitude and approach to problem solving;
• Valid Driver’s License and able to drive a 12-passenger van;
• A Uniform wearing Salvationist preferred;
• Musical ability preferred but not required;
• Must be available to work evenings and weekends;
• Must have computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, e-mail, web searching/browsing, and be trained in the use of Kroc Center–specific software;
• Effective verbal and written communications;
• Able to handle security and crisis situations calmly;
• Must be able to maintain the integrity of confidential communications or activities;
• The ability to maintain a professional and cooperative manner, showing respect, courtesy, and diplomacy toward all others at all times;
• The ability to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army;
• The ability to prepare and maintain records and reports in an accurate and complete manner;
• The ability to supervise, motivate and evaluate the work of assigned staff;
• The ability to plan, schedule, and conduct orientations, meeting, trainings, and public presentations;
• The ability to build and maintain effective and professional working relationships with employees, Salvation Army officers, volunteers and the community;
• Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to be approved to drive a Salvation Army vehicle;
• Maintain updated KeepSAFE child and vulnerable persons safety training;
• Must complete a “Webcheck” fingerprint background check, the expense of which will be reimbursed by the Kroc Center after 90 days.
