CNC Machinist (3rd Shift)

Essential Functions

  • Set up and operate 3-, 4-, and 5-axis CNC machines and conventional equipment using a variety of machine controls
  • Mill, drill, bore, ream, and finish parts manufactured from extrusions, bar stock, forgings, plate, and assemblies
  • Read and follow blueprints, mylars, engineering orders, statistical process controls, planning change requests, planning documents, setup sheets, work instructions, shop charts, and verbal instructions
  • Control CNC programs at the machine in accordance with established procedures and protocols
  • Select, install, and verify cutters, tools, tool holders, fixtures, offsets, and related setup components
  • Use precision measuring equipment to inspect work throughout the production process and verify customer requirements
  • Maintain quality standards, identify workmanship issues, troubleshoot quality problems, and reduce scrap and defects
  • Perform preventive maintenance according to the checklist located at the machine
  • Use forklifts, hoists, overhead cranes, and deburring tools such as orbital sanders, angle grinders, cut-off wheels, and burr knives as trained and authorized
  • Maintain machine tie-in and production records; document problems and communicate them to the lead, next operator, supervisor, engineering, or programming personnel
  • Complete Planning Change Requests, program prove-out sheets, root-cause and corrective-action documents, DRATS, and other required production records as applicable to assigned level
  • Cook up with tooling, quality, engineering, scheduling, programming, and other departments to maintain production flow
  • Evaluate setup and run processes to reduce internal setup time, improve productivity, and enhance quality with supervisor or lead approval
  • At advanced levels, run first article inspection and tool-proof jobs, assist CNC programmers with program optimization, support new projects, and plan upcoming setups
  • Train less-experienced employees and provide lead-person coverage when qualified and assigned
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area and comply with all personal protective equipment requirements
  • Handle and dispose of hazardous waste and chemicals as directed and locate and use applicable Safety Data Sheets
  • Communicate effectively with trainers, coworkers, leads, supervisors, and support departments and use work time efficiently
  • Work overtime as required to meet customer schedules and perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required. Relevant experience in manufacturing or machining preferred. Must have strong mechanical aptitude and be able to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and other technical documentation. Proficiency with CNC machines and conventional equipment is essential. Must be able to operate precision measuring equipment and maintain quality standards.
