The Role
We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) with at least one year of experience in a long-term care facility to join our team as a CNA Instructor on a contract basis. The CNA Instructor will provide both classroom instruction and hands-on clinical training to individuals preparing for their Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification. This role is ideal for an RN with a passion for teaching and shaping the next generation of healthcare providers.
Essential Functions
Classroom Instruction:
- Deliver structured, engaging lessons following the New Jersey Department of Health CNA curriculum requirements.
- Prepare students for the CNA certification exam by teaching essential skills, patient care techniques, and professional standards.
- Use a variety of teaching methods, including lectures, case studies, multimedia tools, and group activities.
Clinical Training and Supervision:
- Provide hands-on clinical instruction, supervising students during simulated labs and clinical rotations.
- Ensure students demonstrate proficiency in key skills such as patient hygiene, mobility support, feeding, and infection control.
- Offer constructive feedback to improve student performance during clinical practice.
Compliance and Documentation:
- Ensure all training activities meet New Jersey state and regulatory guidelines for CNA certification programs.
- Maintain accurate student records, attendance, and evaluation reports.
Student Support and Evaluation:
- Assess student performance through quizzes, skills checklists, practice exams and final exam.
- Provide individualized coaching and feedback to help students succeed in their coursework and clinical activities.
Program Development and Continuous Improvement:
- Participate in curriculum reviews and suggest improvements to meet NJDOH requirements and enhance student outcomes.
- Stay up to date on current trends in nursing education, CNA program requirements, and best practices in patient care.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) a plus but not required
- Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing in New Jersey, two years of experience.
- Successfully completed a training workshop offered by the NJ State Department of Health for Instructors/Evaluators becoming DOH Certified Nurse Aide Instructor. Preferred but not required.
- Minimum one year of experience working in a long-term care facility.
- Previous teaching or instructional experience preferred (but not required).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage adult learners.
- Ability to supervise and mentor students in both classroom and clinical settings.
- Familiarity with state CNA certification requirements and testing standards.
