CNA Certified Nurse Assistant

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Answers signal lights, bells, or intercom system to determine residents' needs and ensures call lights are within reach of resident.
• Sets up call light systems and ensures frequent checks on residents who cannot call for help.
• Performs direct resident care such as bathing, dressing, and grooming.
• Explains procedures to residents and assists with their activities of daily living.
• Aids residents with bowel and bladder functions, prepares them for appointments, activities, and social programs.
• Assists with lifting, positioning, and transporting residents into and out of beds, chairs, bathtubs, wheelchairs, lifts, etc., ensuring safety.
• Dresses residents appropriately for the weather, notifies supervisor if they need new clothing, handles linens according to infection control guidelines, feeds residents requiring help, and documents meal intake and output.
• Offers fluids to residents frequently to ensure hydration, reviews and implements daily nursing needs, transports residents or assists with mobility, turns and repositions bedfast residents, takes and records vital signs, reports changes in resident conditions, cleans instruments and equipment, maintains cleanliness of residents' units, and provides post-mortem care.
• Accurately records all care as directed and participates in and attends in-services and staff meetings.

Education / Requirements

• Ability to communicate with residents and nursing staff.
• Ability to speak, read, and write English.
• Prior experience as LTC nursing assistant preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Successful completion of State Approved Nursing Assistant Training and Competency Evaluation Program.
• Good standing in the state registry is required.
