Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Answers signal lights, bells, or intercom system to determine residents' needs and ensures call lights are within reach of resident.
- Safeguards residents who are unable to call for help by checking them frequently.
- Provides direct resident care such as bathing, dressing, and grooming.
- Explains procedures to residents and assists them with their activities of daily living.
- Aids residents with bowel and bladder functions, prepares them for appointments, activities, and social programs, and assists with lifting, positioning, and transporting residents.
- Handles linens according to infection control guidelines and feeds residents requiring help, documenting meal intake.
- Delivers and documents all snacks and supplements, offers fluids to residents to ensure hydration, and reviews and implements daily nursing needs.
- Transports residents or assists them with mobility needs, turns and repositions bedfast residents, takes and records vital signs, and reports any irregularities to nurse managers.
- Participates in and receives nursing reports, reports all changes in residents' conditions to supervisors, cleans instruments and equipment, and maintains cleanliness of residents' units.
- Performs post-mortem care as instructed and accurately records all care as directed.
- Attends periodic in-services and staff meetings and understands and adheres to the guidelines of "Residents Rights."
Education / Requirements
- Ability to communicate with residents and nursing staff.
- Ability to speak, read, and write English.
- Prior experience as LTC nursing assistant preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Successful completion of State Approved Nursing Assistant Training and Competency Evaluation Program.
- Good standing in the state registry is required.
