Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Answers signal lights, bells, or intercom system to determine residents' needs and ensures call lights are within reach of resident.
  • Safeguards residents who are unable to call for help by checking them frequently.
  • Provides direct resident care such as bathing, dressing, and grooming.
  • Explains procedures to residents and assists them with their activities of daily living.
  • Aids residents with bowel and bladder functions, prepares them for appointments, activities, and social programs, and assists with mobility needs.
  • Lifts, positions, and transports residents into and out of beds, chairs, bathtubs, wheelchairs, lifts, etc., ensuring safety.
  • Dresses residents appropriately to the current weather and notifies the supervisor if they need clothing.
  • Changes bed linens and handles them according to infection control guidelines.
  • Feeds residents requiring help and records meal intake.
  • Delivers and documents all snacks and supplements, offers fluids to residents frequently to ensure hydration, and reviews and implements daily nursing needs.
  • Takes and records temperatures, blood pressure, pulse rates, respiration rates, height, weight, and food and fluid intake and output, as directed.
  • Maintains cleanliness of residents' units, central bathing areas, treatment and supply rooms, workrooms, and linen closets.
  • Participates in and receives nursing reports, reports any changes in residents' conditions to supervisors, and performs post-mortem care as instructed.
  • Accurately records all care as directed and participates in and attends periodic in-services and staff meetings.

Education / Requirements

  • Ability to communicate effectively with residents and nursing staff.
  • Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English.
  • Prior experience as a LTC nursing assistant preferred; alternatively, equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Completion of a State Approved Nursing Assistant Training and Competency Evaluation Program.
  • Good standing in the state registry is required.
