CNA Certified Nurse Assistant

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Answers signal lights, bells, or intercom system to determine residents' needs and ensures call lights are within reach of resident.
• Safeguards residents who are unable to call for help by checking them frequently.
• Provides direct resident care such as bathing, dressing, and grooming.
• Explains procedures to residents and assists them in their activities of daily living.
• Aids residents with bowel and bladder functions, prepares them for appointments, activities, and social programs, and assists with lifting, positioning, and transporting residents.
• Handles linens according to infection control guidelines and feeds residents requiring help, documenting meal intake.
• Delivers and documents snacks and supplements, offers fluids to residents to ensure hydration, and reviews and implements daily nursing needs.
• Transports residents or assists with mobility needs, turns and repositions bedfast residents, takes and records vital signs, and reports any irregularities to nurse managers.
• Participates in and receives nursing reports, reports changes in residents' conditions, cleans instruments and equipment, maintains cleanliness of units, and provides post-mortem care.
• Accurately records all care and participates in in-services and staff meetings.

EDUCATION / REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to communicate effectively with residents and nursing staff.
• Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English.
• Prior experience as a LTC nursing assistant preferred; alternatively, equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Completion of a State Approved Nursing Assistant Training and Competency Evaluation Program.
• Good standing in the state registry is required.
